Okay, here's the cast list for July - December 2006. There were two ties for lead spots with the same number of votes (Rumblepurr had 14 votes each for Gus and Deut and MzGalinda had 5 votes each for Bill Bailey and Tugger), I essentially rolled a die to see which character the person would get. I allowed for only two understudies this time around to see how it goes. I will be asking some questions in another post for the next casting in January. ~MsJ

Questions for the next casting:

Understudies: Do you want just one understudy per character? Or two as I have done it that last two castings? Or more? (Please elaborate)

Swings: Do you like having lead swings? The lead swings are people who do not get lead roles or understudy roles. They are given the male/female kitten swing if they tended to get the most votes for kittens and the male/female adult swings if they get the most castings for adult characters.

Casting rules: Should we limit castings to people who have a certain number of posts? i.e. ~ A person cannot be cast in a role unless they have made at least 20 posts (random number). If so, what should the number be?
I've been making it so that people can have only one lead character and only two understudy parts (i.e.~ I can have Jellylorum as a lead character and Demeter and Griddlebone as understudies, but I cannnot add Sillabub as an understudy because I already have two understudies.) Do we want to make any changes to that? Do we want only one understudy per character? Or do we want to make it so that those who get lead roles don't get any understudy roles?

Cast list: Are you happy with it? Is it too long? Or just fine as is?

First, before I answer any questions, I just want to say *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE* Yes! I love George, I'm so glad I got him!

Anyways, questions.

Understudies: I think that just anyone who comes in second should have an understudy role, regardless of whether they got a lead role or not. Ex. Demeter's gets the lead with 10 votes, but Jemima, Jellylorum and Jennyanydots all get understudy since all three have eight votes.

Swings: That's a great idea. But why not give them names? From other productions perhaps? Hespira for the Adult Female Swing, Summer for the Kitten Female Swing, Asparagus for the Adult Male Swing and Grumbuskin for the Kitten Male Swing? Just a suggestion and the names were just the first I could think of.

Casting Rules: I will fight you all the way for this limit. In January I had only been there a few weeks. I had made a lot of posts trying to get myself noticed, and I would have been very upset had I been barred from voting anyway. Just because someone's been here a short while doesn't mean they havn't read a lot. And just because they havn't posted a lot doesn't mean they don't know the members. I really hate that idea.

Cast List: I think it's fine. I had a hard time finding characters for all the members. Could we add a character? I was thinking Young Grizabella. The musical gives us a pretty good description of who she is, after all. Just an idea, suggested because I didn't have enough characters.

Questions for the next casting:

Understudies:
I think the understudy system is great. Allowing two understudies per character works well, I think. I have nothing to complain about regarding it.

Swings:
I'm not all about the "lead swings", and think we may be better just keeping the swings as a group. We already have so many actual characters that I think it's just overkill.

Casting rules:
I definately agree with this. Yes I know, Newbies are people too (you'll find that I'm a supporter of Newbioe rights!), but ones that pop up two weeks before casting and have made 5 posts just aren't a part of the community yet. I think a 25 to 50 post count limit would be optimal. With that many posts, one has definately made an impression on the forum, and has been an active person in the 'tribe'.

In response to the "one lead, two understudies" rule, I think it's perfect. As much as I wish I could be Electra and Demeter and Munkustrap at once, I'm just as happy understudying them. Perhaps I could have understudied other characters, but really, why would I want to bother? I'd be taking away understudy parts from other people. As for leads not getting understudies... if a person is leading in more than one character, or is close to, it's only fair to give that person the understudy role. Afterall, he or she should have been that roll aswell.

I just want to say that the questions were ones I just thought of while I was tallying the lists and analyzing the results. Nothing is definate. I only put the questions forth for discussion.

Alonza0: Regarding the limit, I didn't mean for there to be a limit in order for people to be able to vote....anyone from the CATS forum can vote if they want. It's only the being able to be cast as a character limit that I was thinking of. The reason I thought about it was because the whole casting process is based on personalities. How can we know your personality well enough if you've only made 5 posts? And something like 20-50 posts isn't really all that much. But I understand your position. I don't want to exclude newbies at all. I'm just saying I don't think those with only a few posts counts should expect to be cast because we haven't had a chance to get to know them well enough. Make sense? But I'll go with the majority opinion on this.

Regarding the Lead Swings: Roxanne and I had come up with names before when we thought this up last time...but the only name I could remember that we use was Hesperia. I'll have to go look it up if we continue with the lead swings.

I'm not sure about adding on a character. I wasn't too keen on adding Ghengis in the first place. It just seems that if we add any more it would be too much. In fact, I almost want to shorten the list. But again, the majority rules on this.

Firstly, thanks everyone who voted for me, and I'm sorry I didn't get time to do my own list!

I think everything's great the way it is, except I'd like more time to submit the lists. It usually takes me 2-3 hours to come up with my list (as I have an appallingly bad short-term memory, everything gets doble-checked) and I simply haven't had the time and the brain-power to get it done in time this past weeks. It might just be me being useless, after all I could have started it earlier, but I just didn't manage. I promise I will in January tho!

I know some people take this much more seriously than others, but I'd like to see more of the few words explanation why someone's been put in that role, just a "(lively)" or "(knowledgable)" - a clue as to why that person decided to put that name there. It's not something that can be proscribed in the rules, but it'd be nice!

Regarding the swings, if we give all the swings names then it would like casting characters as well. I feel that the list is long enough already. Maybe what we could do is allow whoever are swings decide themselves if they want to be called by a swing name. Like SapphireNight claims the title adult male swing, but she can call herself Grumbuskin, Gilbert, or George Bailey if she wanted, but it's not mandatory. The swing name she chooses can just be one she likes and then another adult male swing could use the same name as her. BUT they say they are swings and not canon cast member.

I think we only need two understudies per role. If there were more than two, it would be a headacher for the tally counters and too much to keep track of.

I have nothing aganist newbies and I am a perpetual newbie/kitten at heart, yet I agree with some of the others. A newbie could just come to the forum and come for the casting, but we really won't know the person very well. I think a 20-50 or higher post count is a good idea, but requiring 100+ is too much.

About next casting, I am personally not fond of the idea of too many rules. It's simply a game, not a challenge... if for any reason I think that the Forum Member XY fits perfectly a certain role, better than anyone else, I will vote for XY, no matter if he/she is on the forum or not, if he/she is a lurker or not, if he/she writes 1 post in a year or 1000, etc. I give importance to what people write and if they really get my attention, not how many posts and in which months. That said, I for first, this time preferred to change some of my traditional votes and pick up different choices than usual, but that's just because I thought it would be good to do it, not because any rule obliged me. Too many rules IMO would make the game less amusing.
Just my opinion. That said, if the majority of the Tribe will decide to write down new rules, I will respect them.
...or maybe not.

As for your questions, I personnaly like having lead swings.
For the understudy, two is a fine number. More would make an enormous cast list, and wouldn't mean anything more.
I also think it's great that each of us can have a part and only 2 understudy, it gives more chances for everyone to get at least a swing part.

about understudies: I think two is quite allright because you give the chance to more people being included in the casting list.

about being casted: the rule should be to write within the six months before the casting list, but it would be nice if people wrote more than one posts in this period of time because it's important to know about someone's style of writing in order to relate him/her with a character.

about the charcater's list: for me it's a bit too long but just because there's a bunch of characters with whom I'm still not too familiarized with (George, Victor...etc) But I wouldn't cut off characters because most of the people here know most or all of those characters. So go ahead with it!

I enjoy that there are only 2 understudies and you can only have 1 main role and 2 understudies, it works perfectly. I also like the idea of having a certain number of posts to be able to be cast. This makes so that newer people try to make an impact upon the board other than "I WANT TO BE CAST PLEASE CAST ME" and they disappear and never come back because they only had 1 or 2 posts and no one noticed them...

I also think that if you are inactive, you should not be on the list.. Its sad for me to say that, because while I look at the list some spots are filled with people I never thought would be in that spot other than some people, but due to inactiveness the newer members didn't know who they were and they were mostly the ones with the lists mixed with older members.. Its sad, but if you are inactive, it is not fair to someone who is trying toget noticed and has a spot stolen from them because people vote for someone who's last post was at the beginning of the previous year (I don't think this happened, its a bit of an exageration.. but I'm tired so please humor me.. lol)
