OBC 10th Anniversary Concert

Okay, every other RENT message board I have seen is avidly discussing this topic, but MDN seems silent on it.

Is anyone on here going to the 10th Anniversary concert on Monday? I wish I could go; unfortuately, the cost of the ticket would wipe out roughly half my life savings, let alone the flight and hotel.

How amazing would it be to be there, on what I am pretty sure will be the last time this cast (any or all) does RENT? There's been mention of some "surprise" TPTB are holding onto until the night of, any idea what it is?

Man, I wanna go.
LesWickedPhantom

I LIVE in New York, and I can't go.

would I kill to go? absolutely! I effing adore these people.

it's insane how expensive the tickets were for the concert...

and I would try the Rush/lotto for the cheap seats, but that would include having to stand online all day. which I would do in a heart beat, but alas, I'm in school (and as I'm just a sophomore, I'm not even gonna bother skipping).

I hate living in New York, where all these events go on, and I'm NEVER allowed to go. Once again, Anthony Rapp is just out of my reach. damnit. what's the point? people are flying in from all over the country to go to this benefit concert. geez.

sorry...I'll finish venting in my head.
ShadowInTheWings

I dunno if this helps or makes it worse- but you wouldn't have to stand in lone all day for the lottory, they're not letting anyone line up before 1 and their drawing at 3. If I was that close I would say "screw it" and try anyway.
I hate being on the wrong side of the continent for theatre. In the last 10 years, RENT's Nat'l Tour has only come here twice, and from what I heard had to close early both times due to lack of interest. Don't see it coming back anytime soon.

I feel your pain. I live in Greenvale, it's like 40 minutes from the city via train and I can never go to things! A) I don't have the time B) I don't have the money and sometimes it's both.

I would love to see the concert too... damn it just sucks... I also want to see The Odd Couple and I can't do that either. I friggin love that play and Matthew Broderick is in it. Damn.
DramaRobin2002

My aunt and I are taking the train in from Philly to attempt the lotto. Hell, it's a long shot but it would drive me crazy if I didn't at least try. And who know, maybe if we stick around we'll get some autographs.
ShadowInTheWings

Best of luck, dramarobin! The thoughts of MDN are with you (or at least, Shadow's thoughts are with you)! Rememeber every detail, I want a full description when you get back- even if you only get as far as the line up for the lotto (pictures also appreciated). This whole thing is so exciting, I'm going crazy and I'm on the other side of the continent!
I wish I could go, just to see all the craziness.

Thanks Shadow! I'll dig out my camera and document the chaos for all of your viewing pleasure Very Happy .

It's not worth the money IMO. Sure, it'd be really cool, but I'm fine with just going to see the regular stage version without the whole "10th Anniversary" thing. Not for $1000 a seat at the cheapest.

I never knew you liked Matthew Broderick! Wink

Since we haven't heard from DramaRobin, I'm going to make the illogical leap and assume she got into the concert. I want pictures!

Well, unfortunately I did not make it to the concert. They did pull fifteen extra lottery names though. It was a MADHOUSE! I'll upload the few pictures I got before my camera battery died and post them up here. When we got there, the line was around the block and someone was walking around handing out lotto cards and collecting them to get the line done faster. We decided to try to buy the $500 tickets but they were sold out by the time we got back to the theater. Anyway, all in all it was still a good night. We ended up at TKTS and got tickets for The Wedding Singer, which I LOVED! Plus, I got to meet Amy Spanger which was rather exciting due to my addiction to Reefer Madness. So anyway, hopefully someone who did make it posts some stories soon.

I don't know if anyone would be interested but there is a really good review on BWW of the 10th Show including a great 6 minute video clip with footage from the show...IMO the clip of Wilson and Jesse doing I'll Cover You is absolutely priceless. If you want to check it out, here's the link: http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=9235

I know, no one does... it's top secret. Smile

HE WAS THERE! I didn't know this, but apparently SJP's brother was part of the original Broadway cast so both he and SJP were at the concert.

Damn.

Sad

oh i saw a broadwayworld video of the concert, and i could've sworn sjp was onstage clapping with them! singing season of love, i think, at the end. maybe not, but she was there, so it's possible, haha.
Ulla Dance Again!

Yea, she was probably there (as I said her bro was in the original show).
I know my dad would've loved to be there too (not because of Rent but because of SJP). Aw well... I can watch clips on BroadwayWorld. I should stop complaining.

yeah, but i wonder if it was actually her on the stage singing.
same here. it would've been beyond amazing to have gone though!
Valjean_Jean24601

Well, it's a good thing it was filmed.

I wish they'd release it on DVD. . like the Les Miz recording.

I'd pay so much money for that. . I was so strapped for cash or I would have flown to NYC for that. .

Just watching those clips makes me wish so badly that i was there. I love the Idina messup during "La Vie Boheme". . it's so cute. She's become such a diva and it helps the role of Maureen.

Too bad it couldn't help Elphaba Sad

I'm also crossing my fingers for a DVD. I think that they should have some of the proceeds of it go to charity and that would definately encourage people to buy it. I know I would definately pay a bit extra to help out a charity. And I love my Les Mis DVD and would love to have something similar of RENT.

Agreed on the "La Vie Boheme" messup, thought I think it had more to do with fact that they had one rehearsal than any diva-ness. Don't agree with the Elphaba comment. I thought you have never seen Wicked, so how would you be able to make a judgement on Idina's performance?

SJP was there, but that's not her in the video clip everyone's talking about. It's Christina Fadale, a former Maureen, who does sometimes look like her.

Well, in case it does take forever for a dvd of it to happen - anyone know if it was bootlegged?? Smile
ShadowInTheWings

Bootlegs are a taboo subject around here. I will pass on the information that there is discussion of bootlegs happening at broadwayworld.com and on the imdb message board.

It's normal for a theatre to film every show for its records, so that they know what happened there. We also know there was a professional version filmed (least that's where I would assume all the highlights videos came from). And it's quite likely at least one person bootlegged it. So there is film of it, out there, somewhere.
theatre4life

i found one, but thats all Im saying so that i wont get in trouble.
mannfann714

my very rich parent-ed friend got to go to the concert and apparently talked to Idina and Taye. It made me soooo mad/insanely jealous.
Santa_Fe_Angelsgirl

Hey! How much did the tickets cost? I wish I could've gone...that would have been an amazing ezperience.

unless one was lucky enough to score a 20 buck lotto ticket... prices STARTED at $1000.

youtube.com has become my best friend.

I love Rent and everything, but I don't know if I would spend 1000 for a ticket.

If I had it, I would have. Not so much to see the show yet again but to see that group of people together again.
ShadowInTheWings

Not only were they together, it was their last time performing the show.

If I had the money to kill, I would have been there in a heartbeat. I don't think any other cast could live up to the OBC, which makes it a shame the OBC won't be performing it forever.
<3Wilson<3

I know I say I wouldn't spend $1000, but I probably who have if I had the money. To see Jesse with that heavenly voice of his....I would have forked over more than $1000
qpidsangel

I just wanted to say I just finished watching it. It's absolutely AMAZING! though DRV should not have tried to do her original choreography because she looked stupid. Don't do things that you can't do!!! LOL anyway that's all i have to say.
