Angie of course! she is the epitome of the term star..and she is a brilliant actress, a great comic,, a touching tragidian. she is everythnig..in her youth she was a femme fatle,middle years she was a great supporting player on screen (cant forget her brilliant turn in Manchurian Candidate..and on stage as a leading leady in some of the finest roles ever given to a woman in musical theatre. Mrs. Lovett alone would grant her legend status but add to that Countess Aurelia,Mama Rose and to a lesser degree Mame and Mayor Hooper you have a woman who has played the widest range of characterizations afforded an actressw in musical theatre.

I have to say, I'm stuck between Angela and Bernadette. Both of them are brilliant actresses, though I prefer Bernadette's voice to Angie's. Angela's a better comedienne, though. I dunno.

I'm stuck between Angela and Bernadette. Only reason I chose Bernadette is because I saw her in concert a month or 2 ago and she was really charismatic and blew me away with her performance.

Bernadette is a treasure, but I'm surprised to see so much dillemma between her and Angela Lansbury. Surely we can all see that Angela is head and shoulders above the rest.

I see Donna Murphy and Betty Buckley (great though they are) as far enough down on the hierarchy that they don't stand a chance in this poll - and I certainly wouldn't have added Audra (she is wonderful but out of place on the list as she hasn't earned it yet... and don't tell me she has as many Tonies as Angela, because number of trophies won means nothing when it comes to art).

Audra McDonald has certainly earned her place on that list. She has won 4 Tony Awards, which might mean nothing if she wasn't absolutely deserving of each of them as well as of her other numerous accolades. But casting the awards aside for a moment, in terms of pure artistry, McDonald is head and shoulders above most of the actresses on this short list. She is a superb vocalist as well as a consummate and versatile actress, switching between roles in opera (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), various kinds of musical theatre (Marie Christine, (110 in the Shade) and dramatic plays (Master Class, (A Raisin in the Sun) with absolute ease and consistent success across the board. Even in her foray into popular television, she is head and shoulders above the largely great cast with whom she appears in Private Practice. She's earned her place on this list, no doubt about it.
