Maureen or MimiI may have an opportunity to be in this show... (long story).....not on broadway or anything, just a little theater production...
it's just a sort of friends thing...so there wouldn't be auditions. we all know eachothers cababilities, and will sort of assign ourselves roles.
which do you think is better (as in more fun, vocally exciting, interesting) to play....maureen or mimi?

Without disagreeing with anything TVAW said, I think Maureen is by far the more interesting part to play. Musically, the two characters are about even. Mimi has "Out Tonight" and "Another Day", but Maureen gets "Take Me or Leave Me".

Maureen, definately. She gets to sing "Over the Moon" and "Take Me or Leave Me" which are two great songs. "OTM" always makes me laugh.
Maureen is my Broadway dream role.
"Only thing to do is jump over the moon, over the moon, over the...moooooooooooooooo. Moo with me!"

It is illegal, but its not me getting in trouble so I picked Maureen just because I like Maureen better than Mimi. Thats my reason, even if it stinks.

it's not illegal. we (well not me, but several of the people in it) know jonathan larson's sister, who owns the rights to all his works. she's let them perform it before.

UPDATE: they decided for me because they said i was taking too long. since my friend who played mimi before is in it, and doesn't want to do the same role...i'm MIMI!
we don't know exactly what's going on...but we're going to meet with jonathan larson's sister and try and work things our for late this summer.

Please clarify this. Do you mean you guys are begging and pleading again because she's said no, or do you mean that she's lent the Broadway costumes to your group before (since apparently your group has done a performance like this before since you said your friend has previously played Mimi).If it's the latter, is there any documented proof available from the first time she apparently lent the broadway costumes to the group you belong to?

yes they've done the show before.
no, they weren't the actual "broadway costumes" sent out from broadway....but they were the actual costumes that the cast wears in the show. i'm not sure if they were taken from the national tour or something, but from what i've been told, and what i've seen in pictures...they are either the real thing, or exact replicas.
i'm led to believe they are replicas because the girl who played mimi was rather larger than any of the professional mimis i have seen.
documented proof? not that i have access to... they do have some pictures from the show. if i get ahold of any of them i will scan them and post them here.

My two cents on that is: two of my favorite songs in the show are "Over the Moon" and "Out Tonight", and I'd love to do either (hypothetically...), but I think in the end I would have to pick Maureen, because I also really love "Take Me or Leave Me", and I think it would be fun to get to moo at a theatreful of people. But Mimi is cool too...

As far as personal tastes go I prefer Mimi to Maureen as a character. Eden Espinosa's portrayal of the latter did bad things for the character in my mind. She was too much of a you-know-what and did not show the sensitive side of Maureen nearly enough.
That said, I will not turn this into a performer analysis thread. Regardless of who the actresses are I prefer Mimi, although this poll seems to refuse to give me the option to vote for her.

Maureen is a faux-lesbian. And I highly dislike fauxlesbians; they've jilted my sis too many times, and so, they can suck it!!!

She's the least offensive character in the show. Sure, she's a drug addicted whore but her vulnerability and her repeated desire to get help tells me she probably didn't have the most privileged upbringing and likely got caught up in that life as it had always been outside her doorstep. Doesn't mean she isn't at fault for her own decisions but she's the only one (apart from Angel) that doesn't seem to particularly enjoy living amongst scum and poverty. All the others seem to thrive off of and are proud of it. And that's annoying.
Daphne was the best Mimi I saw. She didn't play up the whore part like most do. And there was this flat affect-like "I don't give a shit" look about her face most of the time, without ever appearing bitchy. Then the more dramatic scenes would come up and that facade would suddenly give way to heart-wrenching emotion which was clear not only on her face, but it devastated her entire body as well. You totally weren't expecting it and it was amazing.
