| The REAL Ciaron |
"Into the Woods" Movie Cast...Cast the film version of Into the Woods. Also pick a director. There is a catch though. You cannot pick people who have had anything to do with the various productions (sorry Joanna and Lakme).Go for it..... |
||||||||||
| Salome |
Tim Burton as director.
Christoher Lee as Narrator/Mysterious Man Hugh Jackman as Cinderella's Prince Angela Lansbury as Jack's Mother Catherine Zeta Jones as the Witch. I'll post more as I brood on it. |
||||||||||
| Kad |
I like Salome's choices so far.
Kristin Chenoweth as Rapunzel (ha ha) If Dakota Fanning can sing, she'd be a good Little Red. |
||||||||||
| MrsJamieWellerstein |
Just keep Rosario Dawson and Emmy Rossum thousands of miles away.
| Salome |
Kate Beckinsale as Cinderella.
| dramaqueen220222 |
For some reason, I could see Natalie Portman as Cinderella, if she could sing. Or maybe Kelli O'Hara.
Catherine Zeta-Jones would be brilliant as the witch, imo. And Dakota would be so cute as Little Red. |
||||||||||
| Salome |
Portman cant sing it...Beckinsale can.
| Desperado |
Kate Beckinsale can sing? I love her even more now.
| The REAL Ciaron |
Salome....Brilliant idea picking Tim Burton!!
Mine would be: Director: Don't laught but I would love to see what Lars Von Trier would do with this piece. Otherwise, Tim Burton. Narrator: Tom Hanks (why not?) The Baker: William Macy The Bakers Wife: Emma Thompson, Cate Blanchett The Witch: MERYL F*CKING STREEP!!! She can sing and we all know how she can act. Those who disagree, just wait till "The Devil Wears Prada" comes out this summer. If Meryl is not available then Patricia Clarkson. My brother said "Demi Moore" and at first I laughed, but somehow I can kinda see it. She would need to be dubbed though. Cinderella: Kate Winslett (with a wig), Reese Witherspoon, Kate Becks. Rapunzel: Chenoweth Jack: He's too old now but I would have loved to see Johnny Depp play Jack. Little Red: no clue Cinderellas Prince: Depp, Kanye West (why not? haha), Jake Gyllenhaal Rapunzels Prince: Heath Ledger (perhaps a Brokeback reunion?), Jacks Mother: Judi Dench. I would love to see her be all crazy. She is always playing a fine woman. |

I like a lot of your choices, Ciaron. Would it be odd if I told you I think Robin Williams would make a good Narrator/Mysterious Man?
| dramaqueen220222 |
Isn't Cheno getting a little old to play Rapunzel?
Ciaron, Jake as Cinderella's Prince...Ahhh....*stops self from drooling* |

What about Barbara Streisand as the witch?
| RainbowJude |
The three people mentioned in this thread that I find objectionable as far as a film of Into the Woods is concerned are: Tim Burton, Tom Hanks and Barbra Streisand. I don't like those ideas; they don't work for me.
Ideas I really like: Emma Thompson as the Bakers Wife. Angela Lansbury as Jack's Mother. That is all. Later days David |

Why? |
||||||||||
| Kad |
After seeing Big Fish, I think Tim Burton would be perfect for Into the Woods (especially the second half).
| RainbowJude |
Tim Burton
Although I think Tim Burton has a brilliant mind, I think that something is lacking in the translation from what's in that mind to what he puts on celluloid. Basically, I find his ideas far more interesing conceptually than when he puts them into practice. I feel that Batman Returns and Big Fish and maybe Edward Scissorhands are most successful as films, rather than as ideas on film, but find the rest of his work very uneven. Sometimes, I feel that he has a great idea/concept and then he either runs out of steam (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetle Juice) or just gets bogged down in issues that don't reall serve the film that well (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). I think certain elements of his style are ideal for Into the Woods. But I don't think I can see him at the helm of this film without something getting lost along the way. I think, in particular, that he might find it difficult to keep the (admittedly very difficult) second act material moving. Later days David |

| what_the_heck013 |
Agreed. I don't care who would direct it as long as they don't cut out the prologue. http://www.geocities.com/emmatyle/movie.html |
||||||||||
| Fontinau |
In a way, I do agree with this. But my basic feeling with Tim Burton is that when he's on, the results are good enough to compensate for the moments when he's off. (Unless the balance is seriously tipped in the former direction - e.g. Mars Attacks or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). I'll happily take a director who gives me 2/3 of a brilliant movie and then blows it over a less eratic director who gives me 3/3 of a pretty good movie. But of course, that's just me. |
||||||||||
| Kad |
I enjoyed Mars Attacks! to a degree. I thought it accomplished what it set out to do, which was parody the bad 50s/60s sci-fi films. However, it did it in such a way that it became one.
| B3TA07 |
I like all of the suggestions, here're a few of my own ideas.
Director: Tim Burton perhaps, but what about Baz Luhrmann Witch: Cate Blanchett Cinderella's Prince: John Trovolta |
||||||||||
| dramaqueen220222 |
Dude, Travolta's like 60! Baz Lurhmann...Eh. I don't want to see what he'd to to ITW. I feel his style just wouldn't work with this show. |
||||||||||
| B3TA07 |
So? Streep is 56.
And Travolta is 51. |
||||||||||
| Fontinau |
Ah, come on. Sondheim on benzedrine? It's a whole new brand of heaven! |
||||||||||
| -amk- |
I personally think Tim Burton would be great for it especially if you've seen the clips from Sweeney Todd.
I think Robin Williams should be in it somehow. I would really like to see Queen Latifah as Jack's mom cause she's been in every other musical movie and she'd be hilarious. What about Annaliese van der Pol for Cinderella? I saw her in Beauty and the Beast this summer and she was fantastic. |
||||||||||

Whoever said that it should be a Disney animated film, you should be hit! And this film should NEVER be put into the hands of Tim Burton!!!!!! EVER! The movie, if they ever decied to make it, should be live action set in the 1800's in hills of Scottland or France, filmed on location... the movie should start with the Narrator telling the story to his grandchild and the whole story should be seen through the grandchild's imagination.
Witch: Meryl Streep? Narrator/Mysterious Man: Patrick Stewart Cinderella: Anne Hathaway Baker: Steve Carell Baker's Wife: Toni Collette Jack: Sam Aston, british actor Jack's Mother: Angella Lansbury Little Red Riding Hood: Dakota Fanning, if she can sing Cinderella's Stepmother: Elizabeth Perkins Stepsisters: ? Voice of Cinderella's Mother: Angella Lansbury Wolf: Patrick Stewart Rapunzel: Kristin Chenoweth Cinderella's Prince: Brandon Routh Rapunzel's Prince: Jonathon Groth Grandmother: Meryl Streep? Giant's Voice: Dame Judy Dench, also did the voice for the revival Snow White:? Sleeping Beauty:? |
||||||||||
| Salome |
toni collette? yuck. trust one of the toughest roles in musical theatre to toni collette? no way in hell.
and chneo..dont put her near sondheim! |
||||||||||
| Salome |
ohh..and patrick stewart doing the wolf?? 3 roles???
| cin |
Collete is classically trained and chenoweth has the voice
| cin |
zeta-jones as the witch?
| Joshua |
It's about the acting not the singing. Personally, I couldn't care less if the person who played the Baker's Wife was classically trained. Or if she could even sing well at all. As long as she can act the part. |
||||||||||
| Salome |
exactly. I am not impresed with Toni Collette as an actress. and Cheno is just annoying.
Zeta Jones would be a perfect Witch though. |
||||||||||
| ilovebway |
I have to agree on this. I think she would be really good in the role! |
||||||||||
| fjays |
How about Cate Blanchett for The Baker's Wife?
That lady can acccccccctttt!! |
||||||||||
| music is my life!!! |
i can't stand Dakota Fannint.... can she even sing? I think that the Little Red should be British |
||||||||||
| MyKey27 |
What about Susan Sarandon (sp?) Witch..
and Annaleigh Ashford for Cinderella or Rapunzel..or even the Baker's wife..... And duh Morgan Freeman for the Narrator...HAHAHA And Patrick Dempsey for Cinderella's Prince And if any of you say the Search for the new Elle Woods on MTV Autumn would be a good BW |
||||||||||
| Salome |
Perfect choice!!! |
||||||||||
| Baker |
The Witch ... Queen Latifah
(my theatre had a heavy black woman play the Witch this past summer and it was brilliant) Narrator ... Jim Dale Baker ... Josh Groban Baker's Wife ... Anna Friel Mysterious Man ... Dick van Dyke Cinderella ... Amy Adams or Anneliese van der Pol Stepmother ... Michelle Pfeiffer or Christine Baranski Florinda ... Reese Witherspoon Lucinda ... Brittany Snow (because I think these two really look like they could be sisters) Cinderella's Father ... Mickey Rooney Cinderella's Mother ... Angela Lansbury Cinderella's Prince ... James Marsden Jack ... Freddie Highmore Jack's Mother ... Julie Walters Giant ... Susan Sarandon Little Red Riding Hood ... Annasophia Robb Granny ... Swoosie Kurtz Wolf ... Jim Carrey Rapunzel ... Annaleigh Ashford Rapunzel's Prince ... Jake Gyllenhaal, if he can sing |
||||||||||
| MyKey27 |
The Witch- Susan Sarandon
Narrator- Morgan Freeman Baker- Raul Esparaza Baker's Wife- Autumn Hulbert Mysterious Man- Dustin Hoffman Cinderella- Amy Adams Stepmother- Michelle Pfieffer Florinda- Hillary Duff...(I know I know) Lucinda- Brittany Snow Cinderella's Father- Robert De Niro Cinderella's Mother- Patti Lupone Cinderella's Prince- Patrick Dempsey Jack- Hayden Christensen Jack's Mother- Julie Andrews Giant- Patti Lupone Little Red Riding Hood- Jennette McCurdy Granny- Barbara Streisand Wolf- Jim Carrey Rapunzel- Annaleigh Ashford Rapunzel's Prince- Ewan McGreggor |

That... could work. I had to look up who it was, but once I realized... yeah, that makes sense haha. |

You DON'T want to know... ...but I'm going to tell you anyway. She was the runner-up in the MTV show Legally Blonde's Search for Elle Woods.
As the Baker's Wife?! BLECH! |
||||||||||
| MyKey27 |
She is actually really good.... Far more suited for into the woods than LB |
||||||||||
| Salome |
you need an ACTRESS for Bakers Wife.
Cate Blanchett is the best choice ive heard. perfection. |

||||||||||
| LittleGavroche |
Yes and yes. |
||||||||||
| Salome |
why not have Dale double..he's done it beforei n candide. brilliantly.
| Baker |
Sure. Dick van Dyke could double too, actually. I've just never seen Jim Dale in anything, so I didn't consider it. Plus, I love the idea of Dick van Dyke playing the Mysterious Man.
| Tumnus1031 |
I LOOOOOVE the idea of Cate Blanchett as the Baker's Wife. Seriously, she would do such an amazing job. Zeta-Jones would also be a great Witch, I think.
Reese Witherspoon and Sara Paxton should be Lucinda and Florinda, and Michelle Pfeiffer IS the Stepmother. ;D Meryl Streep should be Cindy's Mother. James Marsden needs to be one of the Princes, and Lucas Grabeel would make an awesome Jack, in my opinion. Anne Hathaway should be Cinderella...if not her, then Amy Adams. LRRH should be played by a new face, some child star we haven't seen before. It shouldn't be a really young girl...12-14 seems a good age range. And as much as I love Cheno, she really wouldn't fit in ItW...plus she's too old. I say Amanda Seyfried (a suggestion Baker made and I think would work really well). |
||||||||||
| InsomniaCafe |
Whoever said that the Narrator should be telling the story to his grandchild - I could probably see that working if the grandchild was the kid the Baker was telling the story to at the end right before "Children will listen." Otherwise, no. What would they do when the Narrator dies?
Mine would be: Director: Ehhh, I didn't like what Tim did to Sweeney in regards to the cuts. Style-wise, Tim is DEFINITELY my pick. Narrator/Mysterious Man: Dick van Dyke Witch: Hmmm. Queen Latifah is an interesting choice, and so is Catherine Zeta-Jones. I can kinda see them in this role - the Queen for her big voice and Catherine for her spooky line delivery. Cinderella: Anne Hathaway Baker: Ben Stiller Baker's Wife: Ooooh, tough choice. Um, Cate Blanchett or Kate Winslet. Rapunzel: Cheno! She has the voice and something tells me she should do a little Sondheim. Jack's Mother: Patti Lupone (Jack's Mother has a tendency to dramatize.) Jack: Don't laugh at me (because I would normally boycott his movies on principle) but I'd love to see what Zac Efron could do with "Giants in the Sky". He seems to have a Jack voice. Think before you put me in Sweeney's chair. Little Red: Someone said Jeannette McCurdy. Agreed! Cinderella's Step-Mom: Michelle Pfeifer Cinderella's Prince/Wolf: This needs someone who can play up the "Charming"and the "Creepy." Gerry Butler! Rapunzel's Prince: Jake Gyllenhaal Cinderella's Mother: Angela Lansbury vocally. |
||||||||||
| Silverweed |
I’d love to see a movie of this directed by Alfonso Cuaron!
My ideal cast: Narrator- Morgan Freeman Baker- Hugh Dancy Baker’s Wife- Kate Winslet Witch- Cate Blanchett (if she can sing) Little Red Riding Hood- Annasophia Robb Cinderella- Anne Hathaway Jack- Paul Dano Jack’s Mother- Carol Kane Cinderella’s Prince- Hugh Jackman Rapunzel’s Prince- Patrick Wilson Wolf- Tim Curry Mysterious Man- Jim Broadbent Stepmother- Michelle Pfeiffer Florinda- Brittany Snow Lucinda- Sara Paxton Giant- Judi Dench Granny- Angela Lansbury Steward- John Cleese Cinderella’s Mother- Emma Thompson |

| christinadaae |
I really cannot comprehend why people are putting Chenoweth in this. Ew ew.
And Sara Paxton and Brittany Snow? Don't you want talented people. My personal opinion: AMY ADAMS. |
||||||||||
| Silverweed |
Lucinda and Florinda need not be talented. All they have to do is be convincing as fussy princesses, both of which Sara Paxton and Brittany Snow excel at.
Amy Adams is great but I think that Anne Hathaway would be even better. She has a real edge to her that I think would be just perfect for Cindy. |
||||||||||
| christinadaae |
Yeah, they don't need to be fantastic actresses, but they still have to sing Sondheim. And yes Anne might have that edge, but Amy has just been so wonderful and versatile in everything I've seen her in, I think she could add that edge. |
||||||||||
| Silverweed |
Lucinda and Florinda are hardly singing roles. They have a couple solo lines and that's about it. They are not the focal singers in the show; it's the personality that matters. And Brittany Snow was Amber in Hairspray, so she can definitely carry a tune. Sara Paxton released an album a few years back, so she can also carry a tune---which is about all that is needed for a role like Florinda or Lucinda. Most importantly, both actresses are annoying as hell and it would be hilarious to see them get their eyes put out and wear sunglasses throughout the second half. Also, do you know if Amy Adams would have the voice for Cinderella? She's a terrific actress and she was wonderful in Enchanted but based on what I've heard from her singing, I'm not quite sure if she's enough of a soprano for it. And I don't think that dubbing is a good idea for Sondheim. |
||||||||||
| Jman383 |
Lol, Amy Adams could sing CIRCLES around Anne Hathaway if we're going to get down to it. And no, Florinda and Lucinda need to be good singers. They're exposed quite a bit in the show, and it'd be ridiculous if they couldn't sing.
And no, Brittany Snow was synthesized in Hairspray, so don't even use that as an excuse. She and Amanda Bynes are the ONLY reasons "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" was cut from the movie. |
||||||||||
| Silverweed |
Umm... since when? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAsG__XjU8Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNZ8uaw_dDE&feature=related I mean, I'm not saying that Amy couldn't sing it, but I haven't heard it yet.
Yet they put in a whole new song, "New Girl in Town", for her. How do you know she was synthesized? I saw a video of the recording session and Brittany was definitely singing.
They're exposed quite a bit, yes, but they have very little singing. They've got a few solo lines in the opening and during Ever After, and that's about it. And seriously, it's not as though Brittany Snow and Sara Paxton can't sing, like, at all. |

| BeingAlive |
This is something I posted on IMDB a while back, with a few slight changes...
The Witch ...... Bernadette Peters! She's irreplaceable! And still looks beautiful! Narrator/Mysterious Old Man ....... Al Pacino (He'd make an amazing narrator with his voice n stuff) Baker .......... Daniel Day Lewis (Okay, not too impressed with him in Nine, but he would act the hell out of the role) Baker's Wife ... Cate Blanchette or Emma Thompson Cinderella ........... Amy Adams Cinderella's Prince .. Hugh Jackman. (Imagine a dreamy Hugh Jackman seducing the baker's wife with 'Any Moment') Stepmother ........... Laura Linney Lucinda .............. Emily Blunt Florinda ............. Amanda Seyfreid Jack ................. Lucas Grabeel (Sharpay's brother Ryan from HSM. Underrated) Jack's Mother ........ Meryl Streep (With her fantastic comic timing, I can so imagine her going "You Foolish Child!", and "There's a giant in my backyard"). Little Red Riding Hood .. Dakota Fanning Granny/Cinderella's Mother/Giant .................. Judi Dench or Angela Lansbury Rapunzel ............... Emmy Rossum (i know I know, but Rapunzel's role apart from the singing is kinda 'eh') Rapunzel's Prince ...... Hugh Panaro (True, a tenor, but dreamy nevertheless) To direct, I'd consider Baz Luhrmann, Rob Marshall, Tim Burton (though I hope he doesn't put Johnny or Helena in this and butcher it like Sweeney Todd the movie), and perhaps even Adam Shankman, or by a long shot - Barbra Streisand (She did a helluva job with Prince of Tides and Yentl). |
||||||||||
| dolbinau |
The Sweeney Todd film was by consensus very successful..(Sondheim liked it, critics liked it, audiences actually saw it etc..) |
||||||||||
| BeingAlive |
Okay, maybe 'Butcher' was too harsh a term (was mostly going for the Irony). However, I feel it could have been so much better had they used actors who could do justice to the singing parts, as well as, not have cut so many songs by length or entirely. Ah Miss for example is so perfect between Green Finch and Johanna. Plus, it seemed so odd watching Sweeney Todd with The Ballad of Sweeney Todd. |
||||||||||
| Jman383 |
You cannot compare "Working Song" to that. That's ridiculous. Watch the Enchanted special features. It has Amy goofing off and doing some crazy legit stuff with James Marsden. It's both cute and impressive.
Right, just like the footage of Zac Efron singing in the studio for the first HSM movie No, Brittany was entirely synthesized and furthermore, if anything, they wrote in "New Girl in Town" for the Dynamites, not her. She's no more of a singer than Britney Spears is now (and I say NOW, because back in the day, when Brit was in "Ruthless" girl could BELT FACE).
No, but they have no sense of musicality what so ever. Florinda and Lucinda have a few harmonies to hold and somewhat difficult rhythms in almost all of their music. I say give it to someone who won't need eight extra rehearsals to nail it. But as for Anne Hathaway, I have changed my mind. I think she'd be a wonderful Cinderella. |
||||||||||
| dolbinau |
What is a 'synthesised' singer?
| Jman383 |
Someone that they use equipment, (auto-tune etc), to sound good. It's used on people who can't actually sing. Think, Ashley Tisdale, Nicole Kidman, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, Corbin Bleu, etc. It's used all the time in modern pop music as well. |
