With the permission of Aimee, I shall be directing a Forum Cast of The Lion King.

For those of you who don't know what a Forum Cast is, it is when people talk about themselves and nominate themselves for a character from the show (in this thread) and then everybody PMs their votes to me. I tally up the votes and I announce the cast also on this thread. Then everybody goes and makes cool banners and has bragging rights!

The deadline for auditions is on April 21, two weeks from now. Between April 21st and May 1st, the votes will be sent in. The tallying begins on May 1st and the cast list should be up some time within the week. Any votes sent in after May 1st will not be counted.

I do have a few rules:
1. If you do not want to participate or think that Forum Casts are boring, etc., then please leave this thread. I always love doing these and I know other people do, too. So please just hold your piece.

2. You cannot vote for yourself. If you vote for yourself, all of your votes will be disqualified.

3. Kind of in relation to #2, you cannot cast your votes until you have been registered for 45 days. I made this rule because in the past, people have started accounts to vote for themselves. I want this to be as fair as possible, so that's why the rule is enforced.

4. If you are going to cast votes, please cast a vote for every character. Keep in mind that you cast your votes via PM.

5. If there is a tie for a role, I will simply draw names from a hat.

6. If less than 10 people have "auditioned" by April 21st, the casting will be cancelled.

7. If a person is cast in more than one role, one of the roles will be given to the runner-up.

8. Whoever has the 2nd and 3rd most votes for each character will be cast as the understudy (giving each role two understudies).

9. If someone gets no votes, they will automatically be in the chorus so that everyone ends up with a part no matter what.

10. You can audition for as many roles as you want, but keep in mind that you will only end up with one.

11. You cannot audition for a character that you do not share a gender with. Can you imagine a guy playing Nala?

12. Please, if you can take the time to audition, you can take the time to vote (see #4 for another note on that). I know that it takes a little bit of time to do that, but I have spent a TON of time putting this together, so I would appreciate some support. No votes = no cast. Plain and simple.

13. When you vote, please put some thought into what name goes with what character. If you just look at my character list below and put any name beside the characters, it could very well end up that someone who put a sentence or two for why they deserve the role wins the role over someone who wrote paragraphs.

Banners: Please keep the size of your banners down. If they are too large, it not only slows down the loading of the forum page, but it also annoys many people who have to scroll past a lot of banners just to read what someone wrote. We respectully request that the banners be no taller than 125 pixels tall and 400 pixels long.

Why I deserve this role:
Rafiki:because Lion King was been one of my favorite movies since I was little and I love the show too. And i've always thought that rafiki was one of the coolest characters (she's crazy like me). And I can chant really loud in african. I was in a show where we did songs from the lion king so i've had practice oh and I took a picture with rafiki in disney world!
Young Nala: Nala has always been one of my favorite characters too. She's young but she's tough and she's not afraid to do anything, I like to think i'm like that too. And I was Nala for Halloween in kindergarten
Shenzi the Hyena ; since i can't be Ed. And i think it would be really fun to play any of the hyenas, they all have a great sense of humor and Shenzi seems like the one with the most common sense, maybe the leader of the pack. I think I would be good at portraying that

Young Simba: I think this would be such a fun role to play! Simba loves exploring, and so do I! Another thing I like about Simba is that he doesn't break the rules, he just bends them. I'm young, energetic, and would be very grateful for any votes cast for me!
Timon: Oh, where to begin... Timon is my absolute favorite character in this show. He is known for his wit and humor, and that's what I'm best known for. Timon just likes to clown around, and that's what I'm born to do!
Zazu: I'm not even gonna lie... this is just a dream role for me. I don't relate to the guy at all, but he is so funny and I would be honored to play him!

Scar:
He is really the only character in The Lion King I would ever want to be. He so delicioulsy evil, so maniacly mad, I just love him. Dark Characters and Villians are my specialty. He is such a symbol of corrupt politics and is so desperate for attention, which are the two reasons he does what he does. He is usually dignified, but when he looses it, he looses it. Just like me! In conclusion I would make a superb Scar because of the reasons cited above and I would be eternally gratefull for any and all votes cast for me. Thank you!

Why I deserve this role:
Pumbaa - I have always been part of a double act (and always the larger of the two). Brains (kinda), brawns and an appetite to boot I know how Pumbaa works I'm generally known as 'the funny one' and though quick-witted (at time) I often lack common sense.

Scar - Scar is a brilliant character. I think it is quite tragic that he does the things he does in an attempt to be admired and adored but I love the meglomania. Nothing beats power-crazy evil uncles! I have a naturally evil laugh and a temper like a hand-grenade (most of the time).

Why I deserve this role(s):

Young Simba: I love this character and everything he's about. Being a rebel, trying to impress his crush, and yet having to always be known as "the king's son."
Scar: I have a strong passion for this character. I love all his different personalities, his evil plot, how he has no remorse after killing Mufasa firsthand, (but yet goes delusional over Mufasa's shadow looming over him even in death, in other words, guilt) his motive, his wit, how he bosses Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed around without even trying, and how he never ever gives up at getting the throne. I fit this character because I am very mature (which he is, in my opinion), but when I want something, I strive for it (not like he does by killing his nephew, LOL, but I just work for it, if you catch my drift) and am a fighter. I would want this character most of all and would be very much grateful for the opportunity.
Added note: Who can control a pack of hyenas other than him? Much less convince them to do his bidding, LOL.
King Mufasa: He being the father figure in the play is interesting for me. He is actually the lion on the cover of the play, not Simba. He stays with Simba even after his death and watches over everything his son and the pride sees. After all, he is what keeps Simba going in Act Two, and I keep my friends and relatives going, just like he does. He is the MOST mature character, and I feel I am very much like him because he is intelligent, I believe, and so am I.
Adult/Teenage Simba: I understand this character very deeply. His heart is aching about how he is alone, he's going through adolescence, and when he sees Nala again they both love each other, and she is his hope. His mighty triumph over King Scar in the penultimate scene crowns him as his pride's hero and new, rightful king. At the end I appreciate how he fights for his rightful spot on the thrown.


Like I said, Scar is one (if not the) of my dream characters as an actor, and would be ever so grateful if cast as him. I have always hoped to play him one day. Also like everyone else, I would appreciate every single vote for me.

Musicalgeek, you forgot Sarafina, and she's easy to forget. She's Nala's mother who I believe has a few lines and is in The Lioness Hunt with the female lions. Besides that, I don't believe you left out any of the wonderful characters in this play!

Why I deserve these roles:
Adult Nala: i think this role would be a great experience. It requires an emotional understanding of the character, what she's been through, how she's feeling and what journey she had made. It would be a wonderful challenge to have to convey this journey and the emotions with it to the audience. I think 'Shadowland' is a very important song in the show that describes the beginning of a new personal journey and they end of a different part of her life.

Young Nala: although adult Nala is my preferred character, I realise that I am only 14 so people may think I'm too young to play adult nala. Young nala would also be a fun role to play because, like me, she has such a feisty personality and I think it would be fun and challenging to be able to form a unique kind of relationship with young simba and convey this to they audience.

people have told me that i am good at playing motherly roles and i feel like a very down-to-earth type of person (when i'm not hyper!).
i think the songs are important for these characters because it shows the development from an innocent and hopeful childhood, full of dreams, to a stressful, but very exciting, adulthood.
my favourite character would have to be Rafiki as i feel i can relate to Rafiki in several ways. one of them being the one who tries to help others and not the outgoing leader of the pack, but (like Sarabi and Nala) i feel i can take control of a situation fairly well, which is why i would like to audition for these roles. thank you.[/b]

Why:

Young Simba: I'd love to be Young Simba because he is overall just a great, meaty role. He gets to portray the energy of a child, fear, sadness, discovery, etc. He isn't just a one dimensional character, which is why I love him so much. I just feel like I know his character inside and out.

Ed: Ed would be, in my opinion, the most fun role to play. He dosen't do much, but, if done right, can get some of the biggest laughs. And besides, who dosen't want to act like an idiot and be respected for it!?

Banzai: Like Ed, Banzai (all the hyenas for that matter) are great fun. Not only do they get to be total badasses, they have lots of comic releif too. It's the best of both worlds, drama mixed with comedy, something I'm very good at (doing a really dramatic scene but still getting a few laughs in) and that is why I'd be PERFECT for this role.

Timon: Timon is a pretty cool guy. He thinks he is so rough and tough but could be harmed easily. He's a cute character that you either love or hate, and if he is loved, he is a real crowd pleaser, just like me!

Why I Deserve The Role:

Scar: Villains have always been characters that I've loved portraying. Scar is just one of those villains that I find really unique for some reason. I remember being a little kid and me and my friends would watch "The Lion King" and they all wanted to be like Simba. I on the other hand, always wanted to be like Scar. I wanted to be this strong and clever villain. I've just loved the fact that he can use his strength to get what he wants, but at the same time he can use his cleverness to get the exact same thing.

Zazu: Zazu is also just one of those characters that I've loved. He's a fantastic character in a show that just sometimes needs comic relief. This is just a role that you have to look at and love, which is how some people like to describe me. I've loved this role for a long time and would just love to play it.

Pumbaa: Who doesn't love Pumbaa? He's a character that just is full of humor and can even be brave if he has to. This is the character that I've always that I'm most like, because of the humor side. He's fantastic comic relief at times in the show, which is basically what I am in real life. I love this character and I'd do anything to play him.

Why I deserve this role: Adult Nala: I had the chance to play this role in a completley casual production in my friend's home, and I really fell in love with the character. Nala is so strong even in the face of overwhelming odds, and is the one of the deciding factors in Simba's desicion to finally go home. She deeply cares for many people and will not be forced into any situation that she's not comfortable with. I also already love the character of Simba, especially when he was portrayed by Jason Raize, so feeling deep compassion for him is not a difficult thing. Nala's adult role has so much depth and complexity beyond what the lines say, and it would be an honor to play her in this forum cast. I deseve this role because I would play it with sincerity, and never hog the dressing rooms;) Lines would get memorized on time, and I promise I wouldn't be a drama queen:).

Young Nala: Since I already love adult Nala it would be easy to rewind a few years and show what made her the strong character that she is at the end of the play. Young Nala is so full of life, and yet wise beyond her years.

Rafiki: I have loved this character ever since I was five years old. An uncle of mine passed away and my mom showed me The Lion King to help me explain his death. Rafiki guides the way toward the understanding of the circle of life, and guided my personal understanding as well. To play this character and be able to truly teach that death is only a part of living would be amazing. Plus, I can be just as crazy as the next person, and I'm not afraid to let loose on stage.

Queen Sarabi: Sarabi's character would be an extremelly fun one to play. In the movie version her character is barley defined, so in the stage version an actress can really have fun with the part and teach the audience something. I deserve the role because I would make it my own, and teach the audience something new about a character that I already know and love.

Why: I've never played a Dad sort of character before and even tough I'm young, I think Muffassa would suit me good. I consider him to a be a supporting character because after 3/4 through act 1 he is no longer in it. I was enchanted by this charcter when I saw him on stage. He has a soft touch but a firm approach to teaching Simba. He has a lot of morals and messages he puts across during the show.

Whoever gets the most votes gets the part, and whoever gets the 2nd and 3rd amounts are the understudies. Some parts might not have an understudy, but every role will be filled, guaranteed.

Well, we still have a while for auditions. But if no one else auditions (HA!) then I guess we will have double-casting.
Keep in mind that it's just a FC. pish123c may, in fact, end up being two hyenas, but it's the best we can do, ya know? I realize that it wouldn't work in an actual show, but that's just how it will have to be.

If you end up with more than one role, whichever role you got most votes for is the one you'll get. Does that make sense?
Let's say you got 13 votes for Rafiki and 10 for Shenzi, both being the top number of votes. You would get Rafiki and whoever got second-most for Shenzi would be her. If you got the same amount of votes for two characters and they were the top numbers, I would draw from a hat.

But it could end up that you get, say, Young Nala and the understudy for Rafiki - even though that wouldn't work in the real production, that's how we do it in FCs.

Why: I find this character funny and when I saw it in London I can remember him saying (during I just can't wait to be king, when the curtains come down) "they must shop at Ikea." That line cracked me up. I think Zazu is a kind of joker. I enjoy how hetries to control Young Simba but fails. He is a simple character that is just there to serve his job for the King.

same here! at least we have nothing to lose. we're gonna get a part even if we don't get voted for or win. although i'm nervous i'm sorta looking forward to finding out who go what part! it's so exciting!
