I don't smoke. I agree it's bad for you. Noone disagrees that smoking CIGERETTES is bad for you. I don't judge. I do have certain friends who do it to "fit" in or get attention which I think is the stupiest thing ever!

I got to a private college where tabacco use is not allowed on campus, so I'm very grateful to not smell the aroma or get second hand smoke headaches (My parents smoked my whole life and still do.)

I've never smoked weed, but I agree strongly that it should be legalized. I'm pretty sure if it was legalized I still wouldn't smoke it though.
But weed is a lot better for you then cigerettes and it relaxes the mind better without harming any other parts of your body. It's considered one of the best pain killers (they give it to cancer patients), it helps my dad when he's having manic periods (he's bi-polar.)
There is s much more weed cures.

And I feel it has a purpose. God put it on this earth for a reason, it comes from the ground. Unlike alcohol which has to be brewed and mixed and cigerettes that needs other substances.
Tabacco is natural too, but not when you add nicotine to it and over a 100 other substances to it.

People need to calm it down. Salome is not encouraging you to smake by starting this thread. She simply wanted to know who olse on this board does. And everyting is bad for you nowadays. A certain Cough Syrup is said to cause canser for christ's sake. Booze, Food, even Jogging. Too much of anything is harmful. So just because some of us like to smoke doesn't mean we want the rest of the world to. We don't want to bring you to "the dark side". And actually I have heard it from a few both medical and vocal proffesionals ( and this goes to mister let's take the list of singer's who smake and suddenly realize that Patti LuPone has a raspy voice, I mean come on) that the only real way that moderate smoking can harm your singing voice is if you speak while exhaling the smoke. When you do that the smoke travels through your vocal folds and voila, smoker voice. So there. I'm going to go have a cigarette now.

As much as some don't see the big deal with smoking, I have never understood the big deal with putting smoke in a pair of lungs. It certainly isn't healthy at all even in "moderation."

I'm confident Salome knows me well enough and is intelligent enough to know how to take my post. I would never attack her in any way. Please read my post again, TheWitch cause I'm not accusing her of saying "hey kids!! Come on! SMOKE! It's great for your health!" I KNOW those aren't her intentions but all the defending of smoking and the listing of all those singers who do it, can be taken as basically saying that smoking isn't all that bad for you because, look!, these famous singers are doing it too! I don't think we as adults should be focusing on stuff like that. Salome talks about smoking extensively and I have no problem with it but this time it really is sending a negative and dangerous message.

Again, I know her intentions aren't negative. I understand she's mostly just standing up for herself due to all the words of hate she's received from people who like to pick on her using the whole smoking thing. And trust me, there have been a lot of people who've used that to attack her with. I, for one, am not attacking her. I'm just saying we should be a little mindful of the messages we send out when defending stuff that are proven to kill thousands of people around the world. I'm sure she means well by it, I'm just not very supportive of listing reasons why smoking is OK cause the bad points clearly outweigh the good.

Personally, I don't think people are disgusting for smoking and I can sit in a crowded, smokey bar without a problem. Hey, I love to enjoy a drink every now and then and I even talk about it openly but I know not to start defending the practice because it is a dangerous thing that can turn into an addiction.

I realize that it is a personal decision. Peer pressure may have an effect but ultimately it is up to you and only you. However, I hate it when people smoke at the door of a public place. If you are going to smoke, please do not do so right where others can inhale this. My brother had to go to the hospital when he was younger because of second hand smoke in a resturant. So please, if you do smoke, smoke at your own house or at least somewhere where there is a breeze.

I do smoke cigars now and again. And I fully enjoy them. Yeah I have been in so many bars where there have been smoking and Never fully liked but I dealt with it. Now I have been to bars where there isnt smoking aloud and I love it. Do I think it is fair that some state ban it from bars no. Do I think that if someone owns a bar and they dont want smokers there... SOunds great. I worked in a restaurant and it was so nice when it turned to non smoking. It was amazing how dirty everything got. BUt I also saw alot of pissed people that I had to throw out because they were smoking and it was against the law. Sometimes I am mostly amazed at the addiction. I use to live on the border of North dakota and Minnesota. For a while if you wanted to smoke and drink you had to be in MN, If you didnt want it ND. I had a lot of friends who Ihad to comprimise with when we went out. First we would start in Mn and be having a great time. Then It would be time to jump over to ND and some of friends would boycott it out of the blue. "We need to be able to smoke." is what they would say. they would have been smoking a pack straight and we are going to go to a bar that doesnt have smoking alowd and they cant handle not having a cig for an hour. That part of it I dont understand.

I'm not in favor of smoking, but I don't think it's fair that there are laws banning it from businesses like restaurants. What if smokers stop going to a business because they want to smoke and know they can't do it there, and the owner loses money? Sole proprietors should be able to ban smoking from their establishment if they wish, but it should be up to them (the argument against that is that they'll lose just as much business if non-smokers don't come because there's smoke inside...but that's a risk the owner should be allowed to take if he wishes).

There is some horrific facts that those cannabis-lovers ought to know. Many of them I, and many or you, may already know. These are the ones that stood out at me whilst quickly browsing through:

1. Some unsuspecting people have been known to buy blocks of mud, stock cubes and garden herbs from people pretending to be dealers.

2. Even hardcore smokers can get anxious, panicky and suspicious.

3. Cannabis, like tobacco, has chemical 'nasties' which can cause lung disease and cancer with long term or heavy use. Cannabis can make asthma worse.

4. There is also increasing evidence of a link between cannabis and mental health problems such as schizophrenia. If you have a history of mental health problems or are experiencing paranoia or depression you definitely want to steer clear of cannabis. There has been a recent case of a GP's son being diagnosed with schizophrenia solely from spoking cannabis: seriously f*cked up his life.

5. Frequent use of cannabis can cut a man's sperm count and suppress ovulation in women. If you are pregnant, smoking cannabis may harm the baby.

6. Most people will know of a 'dope head' who has dropped out of the real world. It seriously screws up your life!

Just some things that interested me... So when people say it isn't bad for you, then they have serious self-esteem problems and are luring themselves into a false sense of security to make themselves feel better.

I just think that amoking is probaly thee most stupid thing to do. I'm telling you could live with your life without some stick of tabbaco hurting your body. I'm not saying I hate smokers, but I do hate smokers but do hate the fact that they don't care about their body. Some smokers are very nice people but they could live wtihout a cigarette each day. And I would defiantely recommend quitting a soon as possible before something serious happens... even though It might be hard.

I probably would never have quit if it hadn't been for being hospitalised at the beginning of the year. When I left hospital, I was unable to get to the shops for myself. 2 months on, sure I can go to the shops for myself but if I do, I don't buy cigarettes.

I miss them. Sat here at the PC this time of night, sure I miss them. I also miss them when I see dramas etc on TV where they're smoking but it's a temporary thing because I have no cigarettes and it'll take me far longer to go and buy the cigarettes than to watch the scene through and get on with it.
