Another unpopular opinion I hold is about How To Suceed... I know it's probably because of my age, but I can't believe it won a Pultizer prize. It's one of the worst musicals I ever saw. I saw it with a good cast at my high school, but I was bored out of my mind. The only time I was entertained was after the show, when my friends and I were making fun of "Coffee Break." It's one of the few musicals I wouldn't see in any circumstances. I can't figure out how it even made it to Broadway, much less became a Pultizer-winning smash.
Salome

its because youre in high school and saw a crappy high school production with high school kids who dont get it..perfom in it.
H2$ is one of the wittiest, truest and most tightly written musical comedies of all time.

"Cooffee Break" is one of the most honest songs ever written.
Eponine93

Yeah, after a recent afternoon in my dad's office, I'm beggining to think that H2$ shouldn't be allowed to be put on by high schools. For a high school performance, it wasn't bad but no one involved had experiences in the office. Even the adult directors worked as teachers, so they didn't know about office dynamics.

It wasn't just about the office though. Some songs, like "A Secretary Is Not a Toy" are dated and are almost revolting.
Lepitot

I think Wicked is one of the greatest musicals ever written. No, I'm not a fan girl. I loved it before I realized how popular it was. I saw it live after a year of waiting and it was every bit as good as I thought it would be.

I've seen many shows, and it's one of my favorites. I don't care what anyone on here says, I think it's one of the greatest musicals ever written.

Wicked isnt only terrible as a stage show......its a disgrace to the original novel.
Lepitot

Salome wrote:

I couldn't even get into the novel. I made it maybe thirty pages before I decided that I liked the musical better. I'm not saying the book is bad, (obviously it's not, as it's been praised by many critics) but I couldn't get into it.

And Wicked is not a terrible stage show. At all. But, seriously, let's not get into a big debate on it here. If you want to try to change my mind, you can try on AIM. I don't wnat to clutter up the boards.
Salome

its bad enough brain waste like Wicked clutters up the boards to begin with. Just because a show hit broadway doesnt make it good..Wicked is the Charles in Charge of Broadway. yeah it lasted for years but because it appeals to the lowest common denominator.
Trevor

Thank you.

I'm all open for debate about shows, but just because you don't agree with someone's opinion doesn't give you the right to insult them. It's fine and dandy to insult a show, but insulting a person who likes or dislikes a show is not OK and never will be ok.

Actually, in all fairness, she didn't insult him at all.

But she is being an overbearing bitch.

I just saw it for the first time recently, and while I did enjoy it, to me, it definitely is not and never will be even close to being one the best musicals EVER written. But I respect your opinion.

Oooh I agree with you 100%.

I adore Guettel.
nycbound

I think that Guettel's music has a lovely, airy quality. But, it doesn't inspire me much. And, ironically, "Light in the Piazza" is one of the songs I'm working on with my voice teacher. Smile It's certainly a pretty song though.

Aside from musical theatre? I believe Satanism, Satan being a manifestation of the Christian religion, is a branch of Christianity. That generally angries up the blood.

Wicked and I have a long-standing relationship. I found the music forever ago before I ever heard of the book or the plot of the musical. Defying Gravity is a ritual for a few of us to warm up to before shows.

I think all the mods do a great job, especially GB and it makes me mad when people give them a hard time. If it wasn't for the mods the boards wouldn't be what they are. I mean, sure, we'd all go on but we would never talk about musicals or anything outside of our respective cliques.

The definition of a "fair weather fan"

I define it as you are a fan for team a but they are terrible so you switch to being a fan of team b but then they do bad so you switch to team c. but now team a is doing well and you are now team a's fan. you get the point

people i know dont think of that as a fair weather fan you are just "taking a break from team a" or "player 1, who will become a legend is on team a, so its ok to like team a"

the urban dictionary describes it as "A friend who is only a friend when circumstances are pleasant or profitable. At the first sign of trouble, these capricious, disloyal friends will drop their relationship with you."

why dont these people understand !? d'oh!
