TVAW posted a snarky (but funny) reply to a question, the user believed her, and I laughed. Her post was meant to make people laugh, a blonde moment occured, and we laughed about it. IT WAS DELETED.
Whoever is doing this, please, stop. If you keep on deleting peoples' posts when someone has a blonde moment, this forum will be empty in no time flat. PLEASE STOP. This is driving me up the wall! |
Thanks.
I knew I wasn't crazy.

Seriously, if anyone feels they're being picked on unfairly, or their posts are vanishing without explanation from a mod, please let us know. |
Nope. I didn't get a single PM anytime recently. I have had MANY posts deleted, (like, somewhere around the 10 mark) and I have never in my life received a PM about it explaining why.
Aimee just sent me a PM, asked me to write down all of the recent deletion situations that I could think of, and then she's... going to do.... *something* with it. Can't remember what, but hopefully she'll work her magic and this problem will be over.

Are you going by your post count? If you report spammers, that will cause your post count number to fluctuate as the spammers are IP banned and the posts removed from the database.
Next, If I see a double of the exact same thing or an "oops I posted twice" edit, I'll also remove the duplicate. I don't know if other editors do this.
If you're not going by post count, was it possibly things added to other topics where the entire topic was removed? i.e. The initial topic breeched or seemed to breech the rules and was moved into the admin forum for futher clarification, discussion, or to discipline the topic's originator.
We've had this happen recently with some of those sorta-commercial spam posts. (i.e. Someone promoting a theatre-related cafepress shop.)

This isn't a big deal or something that needs to be taken care of anytime soon, but I thought I'd give the heads up that whenever I change my signiture, it adds in slashes. Like, it changed my signiture to this when I changed my banner:
Currently: Beth in \"A Lady Named Jo\" (Based off of Little Women.)
Just Finished: Fred in \"Once Upon a Mattress\" and had a blast!
It did that before when I made changes as well.
Just a heads up...it's more of an annoyance than a problem.

I'm not going by post-count.
It's only happened once that the entire topic was removed.
The rest of the times, it was individually mine (except in the RENT forum - it was mine, and TVAW's).

GayBoy...
WTF?!
You locked both of Duchess' threads.... they weren't even spam, although that's what you called them. They would start good discussions (the one about the buildings could get pretty funny, too). You must get some rush when you lock threads, because you sure are locking a lot.
I'm asking, why did you call them "spam?"
|
Jordan
|
Because as usual, she's cluttering up the board by starting multiple threads, mostly about meaningless rubbish. She's been told about it and it seems to have spurred her onwards.

I am 100% with GB on locking those threads. I even started writing about hem here, then i thought i just leave it.
I have nothing against those threads in particular, and i am absolutely sure that GB wouldn't have lock them had they been created on their own, and not with another zillion threads.
I have nothing against The Duchess, and some of her questions are actually good, but it is annoying to create so many threads in such short space of time.
She is actually doing a diservice to herself by flooding the board with so many thread. If she create them at reasonable pace, maybe all of them will get discussed.
So, maybe they are not spam in the narrow sense of the word, but they are in the big picture.

A lot of our threads are FILLED with "meaningless rubbish." Look at the "Random Facts About You" page... or should I say, "pages." There are hundreds of pages about NOTHING, but that wasn't locked.

I think GB reasoning was not good really. It is not the thread itself, but the A.M.O.U.N.T of the threads she created.
Now, do you think it is good idea to create another 4, or 5 threads about random stuff?

I certainly don't miss her posts, especially once they're locked.

In essence i agree with you. She posts maybe 2 good questions in 10, but it is not up to the mods to lock threads on how good they are. It is not up to their taste.
So, that is why her threads don't normally get locked eventhough some of them are utter tosh.
However, when she starts creating threads like crazy. Almost 30 threads in less than 2 weeks, some of her threads deserve to be locked.

The Random Facts About You is only one thread, and even if everything is rubbish, its in its proper place.
Maybe to solution is to relocate all of Duchess's posts in the Random thread.

The difference with posting in the random thread and Duchesses threads is that. They are posts, not threads. It seems every time Duchess has a random thought, she posts it as a thread. It really is quantity as opposed to quality with many of her threads. Yes, some are good and start interesting discussions - but she does swamp the board with more that are just pointless.

What's interesting about Random facts about you is that insanely long thread was started by bandcampgirl183 whose last visit was almost a year ago, June 16 2006.
I'd forgotten about some old posters until some of these old threads for some reason were recently 'dug up'. Milleh is another poster who suddenly appeared, posted a lot, and then...vanished.

LOL...no, that's fine (and funny). Now we have to look for clues and round up suspects. Gayboy...where were you the night of...oh...nevermind...Milleh last visit was May 18 2007. But she's been quiet...a little too quiet. I think she's up to something.

I think she may be doing her GCSEs?
I must say, I think it might be quite nice to lock the Random thread when it gets to 1000 pages long (really too long to find specific posts in) and start a new one like we do with the picture threads...but there HAS to be a Random thread! This board just wouldnt be the same without it! Never mind the fact I NEED it!

I actually enjoy having one HUGE random thread...there was another board I was on a few years ago, and they had a chat thread that they would always lock at 200 posts. keep in mind that the forums were about half this size, but even so, we went through nearly 2 threads a day at one point. that board was a little more uptight.

I went to a CRAaaaAAAzy uptight board before this one. You had to EARN your avater, and you couldn't post pictures in threads (or have banners in your signiture.)

It was actually really nice. It wasn't a plethora of pictures and such being bombarded at you.
And your Avatar was actually a picture version of your name, and you could either make it, or a staffer would make it for you. It made them really special. You could also earn small badges for winning contests or helping the staff members with the site.
It was a fansite for a Super Nintendo Game. A game that is fairly unknown. I was a staff member for a little under 2 years...I ran the Article Section and was a moderator, and than an administrator.
Here is/was my avatar. I'm not active on the site anymore. It makes me sad, because that was a huge part of my life at one point. The community was extremely tightnit..we had events, contests, game-alongs, where everyone played the game we were a fansite to together (we had checkpoints each day.)
The background of the forum was the blue color that kinda borders the avatar which is why it looks rough on these forums.

Well, life just kinda took over. I was a sophomore/junior/senior in high school when I was staffing and around my senior year, life just got too busy to keep working for the site, so I quit....After that I had less and less time to devote to the forums, and had to quit my mod job too. I dunno...I just gradually lost interested. A lot of my adolescent landmarks happened around that site...I posted when I got my drivers lisense, got my first car, got my first job, etc. I'm still very sentimental about it.
This is the first board I've been active at since!
