Poll: Lucy or Lisa (Emma)

Before you start yelling at me that this question has been asked thousand of times before on the board, I really did look at the names of all the threads and it seems like it hasn't been asked yet (or at least not in a long time.) So here we go. Which character is your favorite? Usually, I would expect to get more Lucy fans out there because Emma is an ingenue and ingenues can be such thankless roles. However, Emma is really independent and mature so I was really interested.

I could see why people would be more attracted to Lucy because she's mostly a tormented character and she does have some great songs, but I prefer Emma. I've always loved the ingenue roles, but what sets Emma apart from many others is that she has a great personality. She's caring, witty, and I love how she would defend her fiancee to the death.

I'm glad they changed Lisa to Emma. "Lisa and Lucy": Try saying that five times fast.

I know I know-

"Comments on style should never be made by those who have none!" Emma is so kickass! I already said this on the Les Mis forum but I find her even more independent and wiser than Lucy is (don't get me wrong, I love Lucy.) I find it odd because normally the non-ingenue is the more independent, wise type. But realistically, Lucy who has always been abused by everyone would be less likely to be independent. I think Emma's character is so awesome. She always knows just what to say. I don't exactly identify with her but I wish I could be more like her. I would marry her. Definitely.

Im a die hard lucy fan, but I agree,

Comments on style should not be made by those who have none!

I also love singing Emma Carew can this be you to one of my best friends whose name just happens t obe Emma Laughing [/quote]
Benito980

Yeah, I like Emma
Bill Sykes

I prefer Emma because she thinks of Henry before herself, I'd love to have a girl that understanding. Of course I'd do the same for her...
NYMNUT123

If I was a girl, Lucy would be my dream role........so you know what my answer is Razz
Talissa

Lisa/Emma, definitely. For all the reasons already given

i personally like Lucy better. she's my fav character in the entire show
piscesmoni

Lucy also has better songs, though if our school were to do this show, I wouldn't care who I got as long as I got to sing "In His Eyes".

xAcrylicDramax

lucy is one of my big time dream roles..
Azelma

I like Emma better. Lucy just kind of came out of nowhere, but Emma had always been there for him, and she understood him, and really did love him.
daydreamerr87

lucy definitely. of course emma is wonderful, but lucy just has better songs plus she has been through so much. i mean, even after all she has been through, she still has hope for a future (when she sings a new life). her spirit is never broken, all she wants is to escape and see her dreams through.
KuhnRox

Lucy of course. Very Happy
MBoy

Lucy . . . DEFINITELY Lucy . . . seriously I think that's the main reason I like this show . . . Laughing
Azelma

Poor Emma.

She's really quite awesome!
knightdelia

I sed to HATE Emma, but now I almost like her as much as I like Lucy. It's just that prostitutes in musicals always have more personality, and get better songs...so we end up liking the bad girl we secretly want to be!
Annaliese

I like Lucy too- but as for more personality.... I would hazard to say that Emma has more. Just consider the personalities of other ingenues in musicals. Emma has a lot of fire. In fact on audition notices she is described as an "edgy ingenue" I think that Lucy and Emma are quite equal when it comes to personality... When I first listened to the selections cd where Linda Eder sang both Lucy and Lisa (Emma) with Colm Wilconsin (who sang Jekyll and Hyde) I thought that Lucy and Lisa (Emma) would be played by the same actress. I still think that would be a cool idea (I don't know how "In His Eyes" would work but I think that would be excellent. Wasn't Lucy supposed to represent what Emma would have been had her situation been different? I thought I read that somewhere. I feel like this concept is somewhat lost the way the musical is today.
knightdelia

Thats true, I just re-listened to some of her songs, and now I remember why I started liking Emma. Too bad I look too young to play either of the girls Sad
Ghost

It's Colm Wilkinson.

I think the character of Lucy is a bit boring. "A prostitute with a heart of gold!". We've all seen that too many times.

We had a "Forbidden Jekyll" Show in Bremen shortly before it closed and there an actress played both Lisa/Lucy in that scene. They had made her a special dress, Lucy like from the one side, Lisa like from the other and this led to a kind of "Confrontation". That was really great! Of course, this was a special occasion... just fun!
Megan the Phantom Girlie

I am an Emma fan. In a fanfic, I expanded her to have been a classmate of Henry's, and a doctor in her own right.
Azelma

Why would she have gone to school with him?

I didn't think women were doctors back then...
knightdelia

They weren't, they were midwifes and stuff like that. And thee usually didn't go to school to be docotors, they got private tutoring to become whatever. At least that's my understanding.
Megan the Phantom Girlie

Eh, it's already a crossover with my favorite alternate-universe fantasy series, the Chronicles of Chrestomanci by Diana Wynne Jones, and a dash of Sweeney Todd, so I'm going on an alternate universe reality.
I_love_Manley

Lucy all the way, there's just something exotic about her...maybe its just me?
Master Thespian

Lucy without a doubt.
Minnie

mmm

i really like Emma, but I love Lucy's song Someone like you, its one of my fav musical songs of all time!
Lucy Harris

Definitely Lucy. Then again, I could be biased because I played that part. Smile
lucybelle

Lucy! Having played Lucy I have to pick her. Very Happy Such an amazing role! There will be nothing that ever compares. One of my best friends played Emma and singing with her during In His Eyes was just awesome. Emma is a great role...but personally think Lucy is much juicier!
LesWickedPhantom

Lucy...I tend to prefer the more tormented, darker characters (not that Emma isn't amazing in her own way...and she's also tormented, I guess, by the fact that Henry avoided her)...but I fit the character of Lucy more...i dont know.
Ivanna

I love Lucy's songs! Specially "Someone Like You", which I feel I can relate to.
But for characters I like Emma better. The one true love who stayed with Henry through everything.
stevan

i love lucy too Exclamation

LUCY

its not even that lucy is a tormented character, its that she is a socially retarded character. Jekyll helps her and she thinks he loves her. i can so relate to that feeling that the only time men are nice to women is when they are attracted to them. and since she is always nice to men when they pay her, she has a warped sense of relationships. i think thats why she is so seduced by hyde in dangerous game. she has one life of being a whore and then a second with jekyll where she feels loved for the first time in her life, so hyde is somewhere in the middle of that. he looks like jekyll (sympathy, tenderness she speaks about how she loves his face) but he treats her like a whore. she has so many levels and thats why i think she is the better character. Emma is great because of what she says to Simon in Emmas reasons (i am not the weak, young thing you're seeking) she is just so strong, but there is little beyond that. she is either loving, in love or independent. i tend to like the needy charcter becuase i like to hide behind characters that are nothing like myself. LUCY LUCY LUCY

(plus she has so many darn solos!) teehee
la tua cantante

i love her character, her songs are amazing, iii looove someone like you

Agree. I can't stand Linda Eder as Lucy. But if Coleen plays Lucy then there is just no way you can't love her!

Emma is kickass too, I have to admit that.
