its a crappy show...none of the roles are well written. plus Lucy has some of the most inane songs in the piece. And I personally know one of the actresses who played the role on broadway and she agrees LOL

"Christine Daaé (soprano) — A Swedish chorus girl at the Opéra Populaire, and the daughter of a prominent violinist. Although talented, she lacks focus until the Phantom takes her under his wing and teaches her to sing."
Emmy Rossum is not talented, and she would never be allowed in to the Opera Populaire. She cannot perform opera and cannot even pretend that she has the ability, so she could never take Carlotta's place, which is what the character is supposed to do: she's supposed to be so damn good she usurps the Opera Populaire's diva.
You can sing opera and still sound innocent, and there are many soprano parts in actual opera that require innocence. Other actresses have managed the part of Christine just fine, so why give it to a singer who has to have the music changed for her? Why not give the part to somebody who could actually handle the role?
And her voice doesn't fit Lucy at all. I'll give you Emma, but that's a stretch.

Paul Stanley is 57 yrs old. But he doesn't look it. I'm sure he could do the role on screen. He could definetly sing the crap out of it!
Andy.
