It is my recommendation.

This is a work of a Japanese CATS fan. An illustration is interesting. Surprised

Oh, what I'd give to be able to read Japanese! So lovely...

What is that site?

The most awesome Cats site out there.

I can't read Japanese...but it's still got a great layout and the ART style. AWESOME. Agh. Love it.

It seems to be a page of his hobby.
He write an illustration of CATS for he original eyes, and
it is a site introducing it by himself.

I LOVE that animation style website. Some of the best CATS fan pictures/illustrations around.

I wish he would make it all into a fully animated movie. It would be wonderful to see!

Anywho, I've been reading this forum for a while...you know, just sort of lurking out of sight Shhh , so I figured I might as well contribute a little something here.

Well, I've got something for you all after all. Here's a short fan fiction story I wrote, based on an idea from Mystitat.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3092083/1/

Any comments at all would be nice, as this is my first story. Compliments and suggestions, especially, but if you want to tell me you hate it that's fine too. Just tell me what you hate so I know how to fix it. Please, please, PLEASE tell me what you think of it and how I can improve it.
demeter_cat2010

Nice job Alonza0! Smile
Arix

Just finished reading it, it's quite interesting.
Alonza0

Well, I'm glad you both like it. Or at least find it interesting, lol. Sorry for... er... mutilating your character demeter_cat.

haha its okay...brainwashing is cool..haha
Alonza0

That story was actually for my friend who also calls herself Demeter. Why, I don't know, since she absoloutly adores Macavity. I couldn't think of a better present for her than that story, and she loves it to pieces, lol.
Akeyla

it is still CATS related even if he looks... un-cats-ish he still has his roots in there. Anyhow, I give you, Lughmore, AKA Joe prototype 2. I also made a smaller moveable one but I dont have pictures yet. They are now off to Eurofurence Convention artshow. Lughmore has fully moveable arms and hands and... use the bikes for size comparison. he was made from scratch out of polymer clay, sheep fur, bamboo, faux fur, wire, bottles, paper and glue. On the image he looks a bit ruffled, that is because I did not comb him after I dragged him down two floors and hung him on his stand. ACtually its a wall sculpture, but for the artshow he has been put on the loudspeaker standing. Behind him you can see Joe, made in 2003. ANd before you get nightmares: Lughmore is a kind and gentle beeing Wink even if he comes from a maneating race.

I can't remember whether I posted the link to my WIP Precious Metals, but here it is again if I didn't -

And P.S to Rumblepurr, if he reads this.
I've finally finished reading TJC, and I can honestly say that I think you would make a bomb were you to ever get them published in paper and ink. Well done, m'dear. I knew I preposed for a reason.

TJC & Publishing

To my dear Rum Tum Tigger...

Thanks for taking the time to read TJC. I would dearly LOVE to publish TJC, but the hassle of going through RUG, and Cameron, and whoever else has the copyrights would be a bear... or a Pollicle... Of course if RUG/Faber would publish it, the printing costs would be a lot cheaper, and maybe even the postage for mailing them. I would get royalties (maybe) and they would handle all the paperwork and incindentals. Yes - it would be nice. However, I would not recommend holding one's breath waiting for RUG/Faber/Cameron (et.al.) to okay this...

For now, it is something that will be on a website.
Thanks again, my dear...

thanks dear Smile
its actually rather easy. its only time that you need, and obediant materials. And money, as the fur and the polymer for fingers and faces cost me per figure 35$. the rest is mainly scrap wire, garden bamboo and other stuff.
Ignoring the many scratches( had a nasty gash that is still scabbing even after 3 weeks ) and hair I had everywhere creating one of those can be easyly done within 40 hour. especially if you make them moveable, as these two are, or atleas mostly in the case of the big one. The tricky part was to calculate and plan it to make it work. I eventually ended up copying nature with bamboo and wire, bone and sinew.

Cute!

The only critique that I have is that the edge of the far right photo of Rumpleteazer looks a little jagged. Otherwise it's quite lovely. ^_^

this is an old halloween pic. I really didn't plan on going as a cat, so its all pretty rushed (i think three days) because I had to do a children's halloween type thing. But overall i was pretty happy with it, and most of the costume will be reuseable for the bomba one i'm currently making.

**edit**

stayed home from school today and got bored. figure i'd have another go at this make up. (bomba of course. <3)

click the thumbnails for the coloured, original lineart, and somewhat-goofy graphic versions of the artwork, respectively. Inked with a Faber Castel fine liner and coloured with copic original & sketch markers.

I'm posting the original line art because I'm rather fond of the ink work and think a lot of it gets lost in the intense colour and fine details of the finished portrait. The quote on the graphic is from the movie "Kinky Boots", and... It just seemed to fit. Perfectly.

I am so in love with how that hand turned out ^_^

My new Munkustrap collar for my rental collection.

Made of leather and studs. Some of the studs had to be reinforced with glue that's gotta be cleaned up, but otherwise, whew, its done. Had to be sewn together by hand. No used belts for me! Wink Or buckles. All with elastic and added sewn on snaps. Its SWEET! Its made for an adult male guy's neck which is why it's loose on me. Smile

uhm...?

Yes, as a work of art it's very well done and quite stunning, but to so rudely declare it is "better" than another’s work is not politically or professionally correct!

To perhaps say: comparatively “I like this work better because (and state an educated critique here), is more polite.

Actually I find the piece quiet lovely. It never ceases to amaze me the talent and the sheer AMOUNT of talent artists globally put into the musical cats.

The fact is that Cats is one of the most popular inspirational musicals of all time, not only for fan literature, but also as inspiration for paintings, costumes and even conventional gatherings!

Why I have personally seen Statues, paintings, even movie and animated guest and fan done appearances over the years.

Comparatively I Love every piece of art I see, and I think some of the best art, is the art that comes from the heart. The art that is so personal to the creator that they felt the urge to express their love and gratitude for this wonderful musical Inspired by the poetry of T.S. Elliot.

The best art in my mind isn't always the pieces that look realistic or capture the most aesthetically pleasing poses, but the pieces that show a true appreciation for the fandom and beauty that brings this community together in friendship, and in a common love.

Rumblepurr

Jemima

I know the "Jemima" artist personally... I have her picture of Barbara King as Demeter and her picture of Catherine Brodie as the World Tour Sillabub. She uses a photo as her consulting image, and she can duplicate the photo to the point you cannot tell the different at first glance...

I like to believe that each artist has a special style that conveys their joy of art. In my collection of fanart, I have pictures by Anna-Karin Larsson, Michaela Olofsson, the Lady Oz (the Jemima artist alias), and a few others. Each artist has given me the wonder of their skills and ability. Each illustration they have given me or purchased by commission has affected me either by their beauty or by their ability to convey action or emotion... I would not chose one over the other...

I daresay that Lady Oz would be flattered to be told that her artwork is "better" than Michaela or AKL. However, she would also humbly deny it...

Actually, the drawing is close to her actual dental structure. If you can find screen captures of Veerle and her headshots ( website: http://nekoweb.topcities.com/veerle/veerle.htm ), you will notice that she has a slight misalignment of her upper front teeth. During the video, this misalignment was a bit more prominent because of the close-ups...

(ahh, rush posting over lunch @ work... silly employment ;p)

Well, in lieu of any *new* calendar pages to post (yes, I will get around to posting the rest of the 2006/2k BCEFA scans later this weekend, most likely), I belatedly present the following.

(link to DA account - full view pretty please)

In keeping with the new year / new art / (... new project to keep me running after deadlines), it seemed fitting to continue the theme by drawing from the New Jellicle Chronicles Smile Victoria, Carbuckety and Etcetera for January...

I would have liked to have finished off the original artwork with some finer, pencil crayon detailing and textures. Next time, mayhaps; February is alreadyin the works .... So maybe it'll be posted before the last couple weeks of the month. Cool
Base work done in fine liner and markers, background and calendar table produced in flash and composited with photoshop.

150DPI, print-worth versions are available for 7"x11" and 11"x14" if anyone's interested, just drop me a pm or email as I'd rather send them out rather than eat up bandwidth by uploading them.
Little_Nell

Asterix that is so cute!! Can't wait to see next month's!

Y'know, the only thing that irks me about the pic is that they have human feet. I have a real repulsion to human feet and looking at it makes me feel all funny!! lol It could almost be a phobia... Not your fault though - I'm just a weirdy! Rolling Eyes
Nemi

Jeez, lady. You're too amazing. People with skills just make me want to weep Razz. The calender is positively beautiful... I love Carbuckety's markings! I don't think I've ever seen a picture of the OBC Carb before.
Swan

My dear, if now I said how much I like your artworks, I'd just repeat myself for the 1000th time... so I guess I'll just shut up and stare not just at the finished picture, but also at the line art and the sketch! Very Happy

Rumblepurr

Yes, Indeed...

The picture was indeed a surprise - no one informed me that you were working on it...

As I informed you, I enjoyed the picture, and outfitted an artwork page for TNJ. The calendar will go up in there as they come so that readers can see the American Jellicles. Once again, thank you absol-posi-lutely a lot!!!

I will be definitely interested in who shows up next and what their colors will look like. The Etcetera character reminded me of the present Rumpelteazer, so I will be waiting for the Teazer later on... I know Cettie eventually was pulled from the American cast (Which I protest...), and Electra never appeared...

Good show, my dear...

Quaxo/Misto = Victor Ullate Jr. (he was also Bernardo in West Side Story in Barcelona 10 years ago)

Mungojerrie = y'all know who he is hehehe... (Hugo Riveros Delporte)

... They really oughtn't be that yellow (more ruddy, reddish light brown + silver & black) but after trying to colour adjust the original artwork and still having it scan in bright ochre, my attempts to tweak the tone in photoshop were not doing the overall look any favours so... yeah.

... In regards to January (sorry, some times it takes me a while to get round to solid replies) :

Y'know, the only thing that irks me about the pic is that they have human feet. I have a real repulsion to human feet and looking at it makes me feel all funny!! lol It could almost be a phobia... Not your fault though - I'm just a weirdy! Rolling Eyes

lol! I get the feeling I'm going to be sufferring a similar affliction by the time this project is over. I've been surprised thus far by having an ok-time of drawing the feet (with all their toes-es 0_0) because it can be an area where I struggle and have thus far been very grateful, in my fan art endeavors, that CATS-cats wear dance shoes Cool Lovely, generic-foot-shaped-but-not-too-detailed things... But these are Rumblepurr's Jellicles and, as far as I recall, they are totally anthro in that respect, human-y looking with human-looking feet...
... So I do apologise for the next 10 drawings in advnce, and advise you just not to scroll down when looking at them *g*

I love Carbuckety's markings! I don't think I've ever seen a picture of the OBC Carb before.

I got a little heavy handed on Carbuckety's markings, actually, he tends to be quite sparsely coloured across the chest which can actually help with spotting him in photos - big silverry diagonals on the chest... There are pics of him floating around via scans from the OBC program & Book of the Musical, as well as a set of unitard reference photos posted by Carbucketty (... the mod, with two t's Wink) and you can spot him in the footage from Broaday's lost Treasures as well as the infamous New York Subway poster... But I'm guessing those images are definately not as prevalent now as they were a few years ago. If you're ever curious, though, ask around as I'm sure they're all up online *somewhere* Wink

My dear, if now I said how much I like your artworks, I'd just repeat myself for the 1000th time...

See this? This is my ego. Stroke away! ;D

The picture was indeed a surprise - no one informed me that you were working on it...

mwahaha, I am devious that way Twisted Evil
... & it gets a little page at TNJ you say?? Sweet!

I know Cettie eventually was pulled from the American cast...

I think it was more like Rumpelteazer becoming a "real" character (vs. just a puppet in the song), which happenned to be a re-named incarnation of the Etcetera character in her chorus costume. The same actress would have played either role... Etcetera's not gone, just came back to a new, 'Teazer-licious Jellicle Life ;D

That was actually the point of selecting Carbuckety and Etcetera for this piece of TNJ art, "celebrating" to an extent the featuring of characters who had been on Broadway, originally, even if they were not featured through the final run, and are now back in TNJ-style thanks to your keeping them in mind Smile

All feet are safely obscured by the calendar this time *g*
Hehe, though it was started after, I think of this as a sort of prequel to the doodle I told you of, where Tantomile's holding up the actual "cradle" stage, since here she's just beginning to pull it out of "candles". I'm silly and sketched the rough f that loose rather than in my sketcbook so i don't have it here to scan, but it's got a chance of being revisited, yet, I just side tracked on finishing this one since February was fast approaching Wink

Now I find myself making up lyrics to a Teazerlicious song in my head, set to Fergalicious, of course. Hmm.

Laughing Thank you for protecting my fragile mind from the FEET! Honestly, I don't know where this adversion comes from and I feel really stupid about it but... *shudder*

Hope to see the Tanotmile cat's cradle soon!

*stares once more in admiration*... Shocked

Wow.
Just... WOW! Very Happy

P.S. Synthetic but clear, hm, my dear "wife"? Razz

I went to see Cats in Boston on Tuesday. What a great cast! All pretty young, but very good, especially Tumblebrutus, Bombalurina and Jellyorum/Griddlebone. I've never seen such a young Jellyorum before, but the woman playing her had such an amazing voice that it didn't really matter.

In fact she was so good she inspired another piece of fan art Smile
Hope you all like it!
