O/T Ticket prices for West End Shows

I'm putting this on a few forums as I think it's important.

Isn't it a shame that top price tickets for up and coming shows such as wicked are about £75 or £77 and that goes for the other shows opening too like Spamalot and more importantly Evita. Shows already running are also catching up and their top price tickets are reaching £60-65 or 70 too. It's disgusting. In the past 4 years top price tickets have slowly crept up by about £15, but in the last 6 months or year its gone up by another £20. Ridiculous.
Especially when people go on about theatre being a great thing to draw in audiences of different ages and cultures etc etc...and those prices its pretty much off limits to a lot of people, especially regular visists!!!

Hey, the US is no different. Good seats for a Broadway show can range from $60-200. Even the nosebleed sections are high priced. To see Cats I paid $120 for two tickets to see Cats last year and Phantom of the Opera ticket was $70 for a single show.

I remember listening to National Public Radio and one of guys from the Odd Couple was giving an interview and he mentioned back in his twenties how all these classic plays were on Broadway: Streetcar Named Desire, Death of a Salesman, etc. and he paid less than $2 to see these shows. He saw Death of a Salesman 18 times I think. Stars! I wish Broadway shows cost that much nowadays, if they did I don't think I would be able to get a ticket, though.

Well yeah Broadway too I just said West End as that's where I go for my shows, obviously.

Hah well I didn't mean when they used to be quite that cheap lol Very Happy But I remember when Cats was in London for example, 4 years ago etc top price was under £40. Same with Phantom and the otehr shows. Some of the less popular shows were even cheaper then that.
When you go to the theatre you want to see it and get fairly decent deats and now you are paying £40-50 for the crap seats!!! Shocked Evil or Very Mad

For the New York shows most Broadway box offices have raised the price to $110. Then, if you are going through a broker or ticket service that's adding on another $20 or so, and thts for Orchestra and front Mezzanine. Unless you are interested in Premium ticket those go for $200 and up but, there are great student discounts for like $25 not to mention rush tickets and lotterys. So, if you're strapped for money there are still ways to see a show.

I wouldn't mind the £60 price tag for the premium seats, the best in the house, if it weren't for the fact that huge swathes of decidedly average seating is the same price, far from the stage, right on one side or the other. Also a lot of seats have maybe £5 between the price bands, so there are no cheap seats! Even the worst seats are £35, £40. It's such a rip-off, greedy producers! Most of those seats are not worth the money!

However, I just booked for Wicked at the Ap Vic today - it's such a huge barn, there's a whole load of £15 seats, which are £10 off during previews - £5!!! But these are so far from the stage, you NEED binoculars to make out the cast. These seats weren't ever used for Starlight Express as the track got in the way.
For wicked, we've got centre of the balcony for £25 each... previews are a good thing!
