Nudel needs Theatre Help - Timon of Anthens or King Lear?Okay, going to the Globe Theatre (England) in.. oh..3 weeks.. And I get to see either of these two. But, I can't decide..First, BOTH plays are by Shakespeare, although Timon of Athens is rarely performed. It's a black comedy about human selfishness. Go to the following website and see what you think. It's a new production and sounds intriguing. http://www.shakespeares-globe.org/theatre/annualtheatreseason/timonofathens/ King Lear, as you probably know is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays. It's also a dark tragedy and long (around 3 hours including a 20-minute interval) and we'll have to stand except during the interval - that's because we'll be "groundlings", the audience that stands at the foot of the stage while the play whirls around you. Assuming we get to the theatre early on the night we can grab a good spot up against the stage. It's a brilliant vantage point. This is supposed to be an amazingly good production but I just wanted you to be aware of the practicalities. Here's the link for more info. http://www.shakespeares-globe.org/theatre/annualtheatreseason/kinglear/ I'm inclined to see Timon of Athens - mainly because I'd probably never get to see it again while I could easily find some performance of King Lear happening. I haven't seen either yet.. Decide for me! |

the big question is..who is starring in each. |

I would go for Timon, because it is so rarely staged. Lear is done pretty frequently. |

Lear has had amazing reviews...but I agree with those above recommending the lesser-known play. |
