Not very original...Over here we have a bank that since a few days allows you to design your own bank cards
I've "designed" and ordered that one (well 'ordered'... it's free ). I thought about getting one with the cast or with one character, but either it got blurry or I couldn't pick which cat to use... And I love the cat eyes *points at avatar*
Few days and I'll have my card *big grin*

That is so cool! I wonder if my CC company does that...

One Problem...The card image is very nice and very cool, but I have one reservation...
RUG, and those people who own the rights to the musical CATS also control that logo and the lettering of "CATS" in that font...
This came up in a thread on websites a while back and the consequential warning by RUG that directed webmasters to be certain of a few points.
#1. A website must declare that it is an UNOFFICIAL website... Only RUG and those they so designate can be recognized as being official CATS sites.
#2. A website must be non-profit... This means that who cannot sell ANYTHING that is CATS related that is covered by RUG's copyright. You cannot make money off of CATS...
#3. A website should not use the CATS font or the logo. The "eyes" are property of RUG...
Now the restrictions may have relaxed a tad after the licensing rights changed (which allows schools and regional Performing Arts to perform the musical). However, do not be surprised if RUG contacts you in the future concerning this... They might... They could simply ignore it like they have done to most fanfiction and fan websites, or they might ask for any number and degree of restrictions...
Respectfully,

I may be mistaken here but I thought the point was that you designed your credit card and ordered it, not posted it on your website. I'm not sure where you're coming from with this, Rumblepurr.

ClarificationPerhaps my alluding to a website was the problem here... I was attempting to use the website controversy as means of explanation. Although I do not have access to the thread in question, the use of the "Logo" (The CATS "eyes") and the font ("CATS") is for official use only. Websites who use the logo and/or CATS font possibly would be looked at very carefully by RUG, and possibly take action against them...
By using the logo and the CATS Font on this type of card, one might insinuate association with the musical in some capacity. To look at the card design, one could easily construe that it is an official CATS card. RUG "might" take exception to this... Like the website, the card design may run afoul of copyright...
I hope this clarifies the nature of my postings.

While I see your point, Rumblepurr, how will RUG come after one individual who used copyrighted material in personalising their card? Unless the card is used in person at a RUG venue, who will be able to tell that it's an unauthorised use of the image? As I understand it, this is not by any means a commercial operation, but the bank allows customers to put their own image - photo of children, a pretty sunset, whatever - on their credit card. So unless the bank creating these cards is vetting every image that is applied for, no-one is going to chase them.

Oh I don't doubt that the card falls foul of copyright. I would expect that the bank have a disclaimer saying that you shouldn't use copyrighted images.
I certainly see your point about association between the card user and Cats. How would it be if people got cards printed with the FBI logos on them? People accepting the cards would assume them to be corporate cards issued by the people on the design/images used.

owning a credit card with the image is like owning a photograph from the play. You can't take a photograph because of the rights. Even if you keep the photograph in your private collection and never share it publicly.
There may be no problem whatsoever but you need to be prepared for them to say that it is a registered trademark and they are unable to allow it to be reproduced on the credit card.
If there are no problems, then you have a very cool Cats card

Wow, I never knew that! So many sites use the logos, why would they bother about it anyway? And technically, isn't it also against copyright laws to display photos from brochures and stuff? But practically everyone does that .

strictly speaking, the costume designs are copyrighted, so it's illegal to draw the characters, or copy the costumes - in fact, EVERYTHING bar writing show reviews is illegal, pretty much. Anything creative, certainly is. But the internet has so little control, which overall is a GOOD thing.
