Not quite a ballad, nor an uptempo?When a song's neither truly a ballad but it's not cheerful enough for an uptempo, what would you call it?
My example would be The Girl I Mean to Be from The Secret Garden (although there are probably plenty of other songs like this). It's an I Want song but the scene's not sad in anyway (yet).
