non-equity, still fantastic

so, i saw the show last night at one of those 'Broadway Series' deals and loved it still.

same set, costumes, music, staging, and most important - Fosse-style choreography.

there was no lift for velma's original entrance, but thats fine, thats how it was last time the show visited detroit. and, no "names" in the show, but still fantastic performances. i didnt care for the amos much. and, the velma left much to be desired in her dancing and didnt like her red hair at all. all the actors were pretty young-looking - pleanty of hott guys in the chorus, hehe. the ladders werent attached to the gold frame, just pushed on and off when needed.

i wish i woulda had my video camera, but what can you do! still, one of my top favourite shows - always will be!

How was Velma's entrance staged without the lift?

quite simply: she enters the band-stand from the same place - light behind her and all - just she walks up the steps. still very affective. it was the same way that Terra C had entered at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, back in '06... no lift there either.

also the same way Heather Parcells entered the bandstand in the first Non-Eq tour.

p.s. supposedly a new Equity tour will spawn in a few months, I don't recall the time frame.

seating for non equity tour

When I called today to find seats, they tell me the first three rows are discarded because of the orchestra. All of us who have seen the Broadway version, both in NYC and on tour know the orchestra is on stage. Is the non equity tour any different? I cant see why they need to not use the first three rows.

the one i saw, still had the bandstand right on stage - just as on broadway and the national tour - in the "exaggerated jurybox", as the souvenir programme calls it.

thanks for the quick reply. I will call in the morning after they set up to find out if indeed I have second row like she told me this morning or if it is fifth row after all. I know it will not be as good as the equity show, but I wanted to see it again.
