No Contest--any suggestions on how to implement on to My cdr

No. This post is not going to hurt anyone's head if they read it. But I have always and soon have wanted to customize a song list and put it on a "Derek Customized" version of Chess.

In most cases, I would follow the English Act 2 verbatim with the Arguement thrown in.

Thus

Act 2 (no damage--I ruined nothing)

Golden Bangkok/One night in Bangkok—use In Concert version for the new version(2008)
You and I/One More Opponent
Soviet Machine
The Interview (from the 2008 concert)
Argument (London Concept)
Someone Else’s Story
The Deal (no deal)—use Danish version (**read below**)
Pity The Child
I Know Him so Well—Use Danish Version
Buddah's Temple
Talking Chess (using the extra verse from the 2008 concert)
Endgame (as sung on the Danish version)
You and I—Danish or Groban 2008 concert
Walter and Florence—Use In Concert Version (2008)
Anthem repris

Act 1 ( a little messed up but not totally ruined yet)

Overture
The Story of Chess (Broadway sung by Gregor Vassy)
Apukad Eros Karzen (similar to the chicago way)+++
Merano/What a Scene What a Joy
commie Newspapers
Press Conference
Anatoly and Molokov
Where I want to be
Us Vs. Ussr
Arbiter
Hymm
Merchandisers
Chess#1
The arbiter (reprise)
Quartet (A Model of Decorum and Tranquility) (use 2008 concert)
Florence and Molokov (whole danish version)
One line of "Want to loose your Only Friend?"/up to I will not take it anymore"
How many Woman? **
1956--Budapest is Rising ("I'm only teasing soviets')
Nobody's Side
Der Klein Franz
Mountain Duet (whole track including "Who'd ever think?"(now it is hard to smoothly cut the line "match can continue and we don't have to be friends" line but I guess that could make Walter storm into No Contest)

No Contest (this is what the Austalian version did)
Fanfare/Chess Number 2
Florence Quits
Pity Child#1
Embassy Lamet
Heaven Help My Heart
Anatoly and The Press
Anthem

*Another thing I could do is revert chess number 2 to after Florence Quits like the Austalian version did. Opinions on this? What do you think?

**You can also see how I implemented the australian version where they put How many Woman inside the Terrance Duet. But I am choosing to use Mountain Duet for my version.

+++Now here is the HUMDINGER, where the heck to put Apukad Eros Karzen. I want to put it on my CD, but it does not make sense. Maybe it might serve as a prologue material maybe. NO IT CANNOT. Well, maybe it is a flashback after Merano? Or maybe sneak it in AFTER "the deal" pretending she is thinking of what would happen if they could recover him? So in other words, the event does not really happen, maybe. Well, the chicago one did something similar; however, as you know Gregor sings the story of Chess. So if I did it this way I would have to put the Broadway version of "the story of Chess" followed by "Apukad Eros Karzen." However, in the chicago one, they reunite. Ugh. On my CD, it can open this way but in the end it ends like the danish version. What do you think? Problem solved. ok. Maybe NOT a HUMDINGER.

THIS IS THE HUMDINGER: Hungarian Folk Song. Where could it be added. I could put it right after Press Conference just as a good filler song. Would that make it sense? Where should it go? Should i just drop it? It would only be one cut to Derek's master chess version. But if anyone can think of any ideas, please post.

So does anyone have any ideas where to put Hungarian Folk Song and Apukad Eros Karen? Did I put How many Woman and No Contest in a good place?

What do you guys think? yes I know the beginning of my Act 1 cd begins a little too dramatic--overture, story of Chess, Apukad, and even Merano. These are strong songs. But then in the middle they get a little poppy with a touch of angst. But land on a good note. My act 2 cd is the same as everyone's act 2 cd if you made a custom one. Well, I cannot say that for sure, but a lot of people would it the same way as me. My act 1 is questionable, but then again, it is just for my enjoyment. But feedback is helpful.

Now IF they had a recording for "Freddie Goes Metal" (more like Mental) "Let's Work Together" and "Whole new Boardgame/A simple boardgame" then I would add it too. But there is no version of these songs that are good on a commercial release. So these songs will be forever cut from my master chess CD.

And NO. I am not going to throw in some random song from Rent just to drive a person nuts. But then again, I am the only person listening to this CD unless I put in on during a road trip. I was kidding guys.

Wow, will your entire Act I fit on one CD? Smile

That's pretty comprehensive. If you're just including the two hungarian-language pieces for the sake of being complete (Because it looks like you're doing the Merano - Bangkok structure in terms of locales), it doesn't really matter - but if you want it to actually occur in a place that makes sense dramatically, well, the only time your story goes to Budapest seems to be the top of act one, where you currently have the Story of Chess - Apukad sequence.

Or, alternatively, if you have skills with editing software like Audacity, you could conceivably stick it into "Budapest is Rising" where the Swedish production does the neat little Hungarian sequence (with such wonderful music, I might add) - so, probably after "Thirty years on they're the same..." "...Minden vagyam vissaszall, etc" Of course, that'd only serve to further lengthen that argument, since you're going the Sydney route and putting "How Many Women" in it too. Smile

I actually enjoy some of the more unorthodox Australian song placement, so I like placing How Many Women inside the American & Florence, and No Contest following the Duet (I actually considered doing this with my Broadway revision, but Act I's long enough already)... it's a pity you can't use the Sydney version of No Contest, though, since the lyrics were a little different, and it was sung by Freddie and Anatoly (And Walter, at the beginning).

I really wish they'd done a commercial recording of the Sydney show. There are so many wonderful moments that are totally unique to it --- like the slow, loungey foxtrot arrangement of the One Night in Bangkok melody that leads into their Terrace Duet that's just wonderful. It goes like:

Quote:
Ask any connoisseur of human nature
This is a melting pot you can't ignore
With no disturbance from the legislature
The players move as thousands have before
As was, is now, and shall be, evermore

This is a terrace of a thousand stories
Each one so typical of humankind
A bar where one in every three or four is
Yours for the asking if you're so inclined
One in a hundred could be quite a find...

So cool. I could listen to it forever Smile

So could it also make sense by doing this:

Hungarian Folk Song
Overture
Apukad Eros Karzen
Merano/What a scene

Or:

Overture
Hungarian Folk Song
story of chess
Apukad
Merano

Or is the BEST way;

Want to loose Your Only Friend?
How Many Woman? and right after she says "maybe I deserve a raise" put
Hungarian Folk song (whole song)
1956--Budapest is Rising ("i'm only teasing soviets)
Nodbody's side

Putting something in counterpoint would just sound ugly altogether.

Yay! I just finished my first CUT. The first cut I did was ripping Mountain Duet/No Contest 1. It was a challenge because if I ripped the concert version there is claps and yells. If I cut the end of the danish one, you hear drum rolls at the end. I bypassed all this into a good sound file.

My result: Blend the the danish version before it gets into the who'd ever think(which some people may call No Contest 1) and then blend it with the concert version with Pascal singing the who'd ever think.

How did I do it so it sounds not bad.

1.) rip BOTH CDs
2.) Open audacity
3.) import the 2 tracks one at a time.
4.) they are slightly uneven.
5.) Both versions have a serious of 2 second dead spots with a beat of 3 (2 dead spots) right after "No matter I got all your work for you.". Then of course it goes into "Who'd ever think?" This is where you line it up in Audacity. Danish has like 3 or 4 dead beats of 2 seconds. Now Line these 2 up from "I cannot think of things I would rather do............ to the serous of the dead spots. Now the measure should kind of match 99%.
6.) once they are lined up and you give it a good listen, insert silence on the danish track from the dead beats to the end, thus erasing the rest of the danish track.
7.)Next on the concert track insert silence from beginning to the end of "on mountains with you..." and also cut out the dead beats on the danish track
8/) Make sure the dead beats are off the danish track. Now select a 3 second or less portion from the end of "on mountains with you." There sounds like there is like a flute sound. Around this flute sound and the end of the sentence highlight this section and do a fade out.
9.) On the concert track. Now do a fade in from the beginning of the track--sections where you hear the flute.
10.) Now if you matched it with the dead beats--ya know the .... bum bum bum............bum bum bum............ you should have a great transition that sounds not bad.

11.) I'm done with this track.

Too bad I cannot think of a way to share the end result with you. I do not have webspace. But for being a person who is not an audio professional, I think I did a not so bad job. I like the result and I wish I could share it with you, but I have no webspace. Doh.

Anyway, just wanted to share that.

Yeah, so now my Chess Cdr set will be longer because I have decided to break up " The story of Chess" like this:

Option 1 beginning:

Act 1

Hungarian Folk Song
Overture
Story of Chess Part i (Broadway with Gregor Vassy)
Apukad Eros Karzen
Story of Chess Part 2 (last Stanza from "Chess soon spread to Persia...")
Merano

I know that is a huge melodramtic beginning. I set the mood that we are in the past in Budapest by the choir performing Hungarian Folk song. Then the rising happens in "overture." Gregor sings The story of Chess." To make her feel happy and better, he sings him a lullaby. And to help the listener realize this is the past, we thus go back to The Story of Chess with the full choir starting from "Chess Soon spread to Persia.........Next the Arabs................" and concludes with the Arbiter saying that "the next chess championship shall be held in Merano, Italy. The first winner to score 5 winnings will be considered champion. And then we go to the happy Merano song and so on and so on and so on. It is probably a 20 minute beginning, but it's all good.

Another option I was thinking is but it screws up my song list totaly:

Hungarian Folk Song
Overture
Story of Chess Part i (Broadway with Gregor Vassy)
Apukad Eros Karzen

But then adding:
**You and I*** sung by Svetlana "I held you back.....you and your dreams....who needs a dream who needs ambition..." using this song as a prelude to what is going to happen but if I used this song, my act 1 can make sense but the act 2 would not make sense because it is the english act 2. In the English version, Svetlana is not heard of a whole lot until act 2 in "one more opponent."

So I am not doing option 2 unless someone has an idea so I will stick with:

Act 1

Hungarian Folk Song
Overture
Story of Chess Part i (Broadway with Gregor Vassy)
Apukad Eros Karzen
Story of Chess Part 2 (last Stanza from "Chess soon spread to Persia...")
Merano/What a Scene What a Joy
commie Newspapers
Press Conference
Anatoly and Molokov
Where I want to be
Us Vs. Ussr
Arbiter
Hymm
Merchandisers
Chess#1
The arbiter (reprise)
Quartet (A Model of Decorum and Tranquility) (use 2008 concert)
Florence and Molokov (whole danish version)
One line of "Want to loose your Only Friend?"/up to I will not take it anymore"
How many Woman? **
1956--Budapest is Rising ("I'm only teasing soviets')
Nobody's Side
Der Klein Franz
Mountain Duet (whole track including "Who'd ever think?"(now it is hard to smoothly cut the line "match can continue and we don't have to be friends" line but I guess that could make Walter storm into No Contest)

No Contest (this is what the Austalian version did)
Fanfare/Chess Number 2
Florence Quits
Pity Child#1
Embassy Lamet
Heaven Help My Heart
Anatoly and The Press
Anthem

Almost 30 tacks. Wow.

But there may still be a way to save Svet's version of You and I by sneaking it after the endgame. so the end of act 2 would look like this

Act 2

Golden Bangkok/One night in Bangkok—use In Concert version for the new version(2008)
You and I/One More Opponent
Soviet Machine
The Interview (from the 2008 concert)
Argument (London Concept)
Someone Else’s Story
The Deal (no deal)—use Danish version (**read below**)
Pity The Child
I Know Him so Well—Use Danish Version
Buddah's Temple
Talking Chess (using the extra verse from the 2008 concert)
Endgame (as sung on the Danish version)
You and I(Florence and Russian) Danish or Groban 2008 concert
You and I (Svetlanas reprise)--Her pity song
Walter and Florence—Use In Concert Version (2008)
Anthem reprise

Actually that might be interesting:

Florence: Anatoly your not free. You have a wife and kids

(They embrace each other singing "You and I")

then Svetlana comes in all pissy:

"Why did you not believe me? I held you back. You and your dreams. Who needs a dream? Who needs ambition?")

(and then she runs away and we never from Svetlana again. She runs crying and stuff--too bad I can't have this recorded--no such version)

And then Walter comes in and says that they might find her father, even if he may or may not know if Florence's father is alive.

Anthem.

Yeah. I love it.

But I also recently learned from you guys posts that an off-broadway version, put svetlana's you and I after Someone Elses story. So I could also do it like this:

Golden Bangkok/One night in Bangkok—use In Concert version for the new version(2008)
You and I/One More Opponent
Soviet Machine
The Interview (from the 2008 concert)
Argument (London Concept)
Someone Else’s Story
You and I(Svetlana's version---begin cut right before musical Interlude)
The Deal (no deal)—use Danish version (**read below**)
Pity The Child
I Know Him so Well—Use Danish Version
Buddah's Temple
Talking Chess (using the extra verse from the 2008 concert)
Endgame (as sung on the Danish version)
You and I(Florence and Russian) Danish or Groban 2008 concert
Walter and Florence—Use In Concert Version (2008)
Anthem reprise

So many choices...... I got to think of
