NewsiesWhat do you think of this musical? Should it go on Broadway or stay where it's at? |

if they can get decent male actors, singers, and dancers, then yes.

I only like the song they sing when they start the strike.
No. |

i think it would look awkward seeing adults being the kids. They wouldn't have that many kids on broadway at once, would they?

I would absolutely love it.

Arise and seize the dayThere is a lot of potential in Newsies for a stage production, although there is the very real danger that the show could be bogged down by a mediocre book. That was the central flaw of the film for me: the screenplay was a bit flat and portrayed some rather complex issues and relationships in a rather one-dimensional light. The show could be great on stage with revisions that made the characters more complex. I think that the female roles, in particular, need to be built up quite a lot. Alan Menken would also have to take a good look at the score as a whole to make it something more than just a collection of good songs that decorate the narrative.
Would you really need any more kids for Newsies than you would need for Oliver? Later days David |

Hasn't it already been made into a musical? I pretty sure it has, though it failed miserably.

I just saw Newsies the other day! It's such a cute musical, and I really enjoyed the film. However, transfering that over to the stage may not be a good idea... unfortunately, sometimes you are quite limited with what you can do in theatre (not like a movie where you can do pretty much anything). As much as I like it, I think it best be left at just being a movie. |

Not yet...
No, Newsies - to my knowledge - has not yet been officially adapted and released for performance as a stage musical, although according to this article from MTI, there are plans to create a stage version of the show in the second phase of their schools film-to-stage adaptation project in collaboration with Disney. The show has certainly never had a major staging on Broadway or in the West End. Later days David |

It's one of those shows that makes you feel warm and happy inside, and I would love for it to be produced. Still, I don't think that you would need all male newsies. Obviously the lead newsies would be male, but you could round out the chorus with girls. Actually, in the DVD commentary, they mentioned that there was a female newsie, but they cut her out. They could bring her back. And you wouldn't need too many kids either - probably as many as in Oliver, like David says.
Also, they would need to maximize the female roles, such as Sarah and....erm....Ann Margret's character. After that I think it would be an extremely cute, if not great little musical. Either that or re-make the movie. I'd love to see a new version of the film! ♪Michelle♪ |

Newsies wont be remade because the creater of it has moved on to High School Musical. Unless some one buys out the rights for it, its pretty much gonna stay where it is

The whole movie (I think) is on Youtube, broken up into about 13 sections. The quality's not great but it was still fun to watch!

I'd enjoy seeing it on stage, that is for sure.

Having only seen bits and pieces of the film..does Robet Duvall get a song?
| Lepitot |
No, he doesn't. He's a great actor, but his scenes were always my least favorite. I fast forward through half the movie just to get to the musical numbers. If they do put it on Broadway, they defiantely need to revise the script.

The script would need a little work. But I think a stage adaption could be done very easily. Especially with the following it already has.
Imean look at what these frat boys did with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UxuGJeaNGg&mode=related&search= If frat guys can do that Im sure it could be a stage adaption. |
