New to this, and need a Winifred song by next week ! <3

Heyy all ! So, I'm new to this. But I read your OUAM posts and totally fell in love with this whole thing. It's an amazing thing.

Well, as if we don't have ENOUGH posts regarding this... I really would appreciate some Fred-audition-song guidance. Some background.. I found this show a year ago and fell totally in love with it. It is one of my favorite shows, and since I got into it I've always always wanted to play Winifred. Her songs are exactly in my range, and I love being obnoxious and will NEVER accept the "goody-goody" parts. So I was thrilled to find an "out there" lead =] I've been working over a month at her character, because this part is so dramatically important to me. I will accept the Queen as a second, cause that's an amaze role, but this is what I've wanted for so long.

Now, I've read all the other Fred posts, and most of them support I Cain't Say No. But, that's higher then I want. Yes, it's a belty song.. but I don't like how it sounds in my voice. So, that's out. I was gunna sing, "Nothing" from A Chorus Line because it's a mezzo song as well and Diana's spunky.. but that's not "Fred" enough, in my opinion. And ridiculously over-the-top, by the way, for an audition is SUICIDE. If you could PPLEASEE take the time to read this and respond.. I couldn't thank youu enough ! The audition is October 17th; I will be checking back !

Thank you ridiculouslyy ! <3

There is a big list of songs that can be good for auditions. Look at the mezzo and alto uptempo selections. That should give you some good ideas.

I sang No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" and got the part in professional production. But then again, I try to eschew the typical Broadway show tunes when auditioning. It makes me stand out.
Tenalto

I actually think that "Cock-Eyed Optimist" from SOUTH PACIFIC would work fairly well. It's not necessarily a big belter song, but it's up-tempo and the lyrics sound like something Fred might sing. It's a mezzo/alto piece, so it's not too high at all. I'm not sure how it works out in practice, but it seems to fit the part.

I got a crow from Peter Pan

Annie get your Gun: I've got the sun in the morning
You can't get a man with a gun

Oom pah pah from Oliver!

I know this is too late, but I think "I have confidence" from the Sound of Music is a great Fred audition song.
