Ok, so I am brand new to MDN. I "found" it yesterday and I can definitely see myself losing time to reading and posting here. But to get into the meat of my first post:

I will be auditioning for Into the Woods in a few months for a community production. I know am thinking way in advance, but I like to be very prepared. I want to audition for Jack. I had a thought for a song that may be appropriate concerning age and type of song, but may be inappropriate for...another...reason. So what do you guys think of singing My Unfortunate Erection (Chip's Lament) from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee?

First of all, welcome to the boards!

Secondly, there's a thread for song suggestions at the top of this page. It's called "The Audition Song Thread". On the first few pages, there are some helpful lists of audition songs. If you don't find anything helpful there, you can post your question in the thread.

People tend to answer the song questions faster up there...

Also, I think your choice of song is not good for many reasons...#1 It's not appropriate...#2 It's not right for the character of Jack...#3 The accompaniment is hard for a pianist to sight read...#4 Musically, I don't think it's right for the character either...

When you post up in that thread, it helps us if you put down what roles you've played in the past and also what songs you have in your rep/what songs you sing well.

i agree with jazzy (she's usually right!) post in the audition song thread then move in here.. do a sondheim song that shows your upper and lower range and the character of jack. as for what to do, i don't kn ow any ongs like that - apart from giants in the sky but don't try to copy the OBC - be creative and have fun with your audition!

Thanks for the input. I will probably stay away from it for the audition. I was just looking for something different, unique, and/or unusual.

I had read on other posts (and other sites) that Corner in the Sky seems to be a great audition piece for Jack, but it is way overdone so I didn't want to do that.

I just got off a big Spelling Bee so I was looking for any reason (even a weak one) to sing something from that show.
