New Movie

If there were to be a movie made now, who would you cast for the principal parts?
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Wow...that's actually a good question...

Hmmm...I'll get back to you on that.

I think:
Lenny Kravitz as jesus, Ewan Macgregor as Judas, and Amy Winehouse as Mary.,
Monsieur D'Arque

Jack Black as Simon. Hands down.
DanUSGS

I'd actually have Ewan as Jesus and Jack Black as Herod.
Monsieur D'Arque

I disagree- Jack has the "look" for Herod, but his "type" is the rock-and-roll wild man who uses the word F*** more than exactly necessary, and gets carried away in everything he does. Ever see/hear any Tenacious D? The guy has the perfect voice and demeanor for Simon- unless you're a purist who insists that only a black Simon can pull it off.

I'm a hardcore fan of the D. I just think Black would be more interesting as Herod.

Funny that you mention this, Monsieur, because Mr. Black just played Herod to great acclaim in August 2006 at a one-night benefit for a youth theatre program in a production of "Superstar" that also featured original film stars Ted Neeley, Yvonne Elliman, and Barry Dennen, plus Ben Vereen, the OBC Judas. Some reviewers even called Herod "the role Jack was born to play," an assertion backed up by Black in an interview.

I think comedians often are brilliant actors. I don't like Carey doing serious stuff (except for Man on the Moon, he was great) but Will Ferrel in Stranger than Fiction was surprisingly good. I liked Black in King Kong. I'd like to see him do some Broadway.
Monsieur D'Arque

Wow- now I'm totally seeing a production in which Black plays Caiaphas, Simon and Herod. If you think those are incompatible range-wise, listen to some Tenacious D and tell me if he couldn't pull it off. JB, KG and Lee as the High Priests... this is the perfect time to say "lol" out loud.
Salome

Jeremy irons as Pilate
Cheryl Crow as Mary
Eric Idle as Herod

I would love for them to cast actual rock musicians....

Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden) as Judas

Matthew Bellamy (Muse) as Jesus

Amy Winehouse as Mary
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

I've done some thinking. For me, it wouldn't be a film without the right group, and that would be...

Judas Iscariot.........BEN VEREEN
Jesus Christ...........TED NEELEY
Mary Magdalene.....YVONNE ELLIMAN
Priests...................ALLEN CHRISTOPHER, CHUCK DiMARIA, ANTHONY GRANT, NATHAN REID
Caiaphas, High Priest..............CHRISTOPHER P. CAREY
Annas...................LARRY FRIEDMAN
Simon Zealotes.....CLINT HOLMES
Pontius Pilate.........BARRY DENNEN
Maid by the Fire.....RENÉE COHEN
Peter....................DOUGLAS CRAWFORD
King Herod............JACK BLACK

I know, I know, it's the cast of the August 2006 California benefit, but that show had the perfect cast.
Lazarus (Adam G)

If they were to do another movie, I don't think Neeley should reprise his role. Not because he can't do it, but because he won't be playing Jesus forever, and the torch has to be passed.

Judas- Danny Zolli or Corey Glover
Jesus- Danny Zolli or Ted Neeley (in case Zolli took Judas instead)
Mary- Yvonne Elliman or Natilie Toro
Caiaphas- Frankie Stevens or Christopher P. Carry
Annas- Jeffery Polk or Larry Friedman
Simon Zealots- Lawrence Clayton
Pilate- Barry Dennen
Peter- Eh...I don't care.
King Herod- Jack Black or Eric Idle
Monsieur D'Arque

What about Danny Elfman as Pilate? I can see it- moreover, I can hear it.

But that's not a very good idea. What's the point of making a new film if you keep cast members from the original?

Age has to be a factor in a new film as well--for example, as much as I'd love to see Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean in a future film version of Les Miserables, I know that he is much too old today, which is why I'd opt instead for someone like John Owen-Jones.
