New Fringe musical audition - suggestions appreciatedHi. It's been awhile since I've posted on here, not that I'm a regular, but I've come upon an audition for a new show happening at a Fringe festival and am not quite sure how to approach it. I've had some dialogue with the person casting - I can't recall if they're the director or producer, but because they're not the musical director, I couldn't probe very far about what they would prefer in an audition song (nor get a reply about the vocal range of the character). The most recent comment about it was:
"The song, or rather the singing quality, I feel should best portray a kind of innate beauty of character. The Sarah character in the play spends most of her time being shy and unable to allow herself to speak or venture her opinion in the shadow of other, more willful and arrogant characters, but she has to surpass everyone in the end with her ability to sing and radiate her inner beauty, shall we say."
I was thinking of Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop of Horrors, because I know it well and the sides I got for the character included the lyrics to the song, and some of it included things like 'Take me far away from here' and such. But because I suspect that the song is merely one that the character sings in a performance, and therefore out of context to the character herself, I'm not so sure. I'm guessing she's sort of a Christine Daae kind of girl. Minus the opera, of course. She's supposed to 'upstage the diva' through her singing.
So, after that confusing ramble... can anyone help me out?
