Nessa's wheelchairRight before the Wizard and I, Nessa's wheelchair spins across the stage. Being technilogically stupid(and bad at spelling too, apparently), I'm not sure how this is done. Does anyone know if that is controlled on the stage, or in the wheelchair? Thanks ahead of time.

I think it's on tracks? I'm wrong, I know I am.

I was thinking either that, or there was something in the wheelchair that was programed to turn and everything. Thanks!

It cant be on tracks. There are a lot of grooves in the stage, but thats for set pieces, and those large props.
The chair has to be remote controlled, as the Nessas dont do anything- move a joystick or anything, so I think it must be done offstage. I'm rather intrigued with the mechanics of the actual chair- how they stear it in circles, and control where its going- which wheels move, and how are they connected so that they work as an ordinary wheel chair wheels when not driving the inhabitant crazy.

There are some sort of electronic wheels on the bottom, but I don't know if it's the actress who controls it or someone offstage. It's in The Grimmerie, somewhere.

Maybe it's remote controlled from offstage, like the Phantom's boat.

Thanks everyone! I know that it isn't controlled by whoever is playing Nessa, for some wave their hands up in the air. I never even thought about it being remote controlled

I think it's like a toy car with a remote control, so they have under the chair the engine (sp?) and then someone offstage moving it...
BTW, if we're talking about Nessa, I came across this pic, and I was wondering if that is her WWOTE clothes before they changed it:

From Stephen Schwartz...
2. How does Nessa's chair spin?
Would you believe that it's magic? OK, I didn't think so. It's mechanical -- operated by remote-control by a stagehand off-stage. What is important (I always have to give notes about this to remind the actress playing Nessarose) is that Nessa keeps her hands off the chair and visible to the audience, so that it doesn't look as if she's working it.

It is the WWOTE costume for the San Fran try outs.
