Crazy for You is full of Gershwin stuff, and really packs them in. We also got good audiences for Once Upon a Mattress. Almost any R&H musical has a guaranteed following as does West Side Story. Good Luck! |

Biggest draw of all timeI hate to say it but GREASE. Biggest two night house I have seen was for Grease. Everyone knows it. Everyone has seen it. And they will see it again. Also, HAIR has this huge cult following. Might be good if your area is anti-Iraq war. KK |

Maybe Bye Bye Birdie? |

With High School Musical, your theatre department can get a lot of exposure and it's a guaranteed seat filler because of the young fan base that is in love with it.
But when it comes down to choosing a musical, you need to know what you have in your department before you choose. For example, if the department is not diverse, don't do West Side Story. Because it'll probably be the white kids fighting the white kids, and that doesn't make a good show. And if there's no way people can sing the parts, then don't choose it (shows like JCS, Tommy, Hair, etc.) But you can't go wrong with HSM, Once Upon A Mattress, Bye Bye Birdie, or Anything Goes (which is an amazing show for high schoolers to do!!) |
