need irish accent asap

Hello!

I need your assistance with something. I need to know a good movie or two to watch to learn enough of an Irish accent to get me through an audition.

No I'm not going to use movies to learn my Irish accent if I actually get cast in the show. Then I will order dialect training CDs and learn it properly. However, I have to audition in 2 days and I have probably never attempted to speak with an Irish accent before in my life so I'd like to watch a movie so that I can pick up at least A LITTLE.

I'm auditioning for Girleen in Martin McDonagh's Lonesome West, if that gives you all a more specific idea of what kind of Irish accent I need. (thought this role was essentially already offered to me... but I guess there is going to be a formal audition... that my younger, more talented friend is also going to be attending...)

rent "James Jaoyce's The Dead" excellent film. filled with real Irish actors.

if only it were that easy... i really want this role and there are several things complicating my getting it... namely, the fact that a romantic relationship with one of the cast members ended sort of awkwardly and that person is sort of my "in" with the company...

garn...

any other general tips on how I can gain the most basic, possibly pathetic irish accent in a short amount of time?

Press the top of your tongue against the roof of your mouth when you say 'r's...Think Scottish, cause thinking Scottish is easier than thinking Irish...it's hard to explain how to speak in an accent, haha.

But, um, there's lot of tongue involved. Flap it around some.

think 'roight' instead of 'right.' it falls into place from there

if I remember the movie "far and away" has a ton of irish accents in it. Umm gangs of new york has alot too.
Salome

yeah but some of the accents in far and away were very good...some weere awful.

The Dead is the best film to check out. everyone is Irish.

I was just about to create a topic about this. I'm in a play and we are supposed to have Irish accents. My friend just emailed me asking if I knew any good movies for developing the Irish accent.
I'm going to check to see if my local library has dilect tapes before resulting to watching movies. I understand for an audition however.

The Quiet Man with Maureen O'Hara.

It's great for learning how to mimic an Irish accent, plus the accent is real and it's just a faboo movie.

If I was actually cast in a show or if I had more than 2 days to pick up an accent, I would definitely purchase a dialect CD. You can find 'em on amazon.com pretty easily. However, I don't think even with hella expensive overnight delivery that I'd have enough time to pick up an accent before the audition.

So I keep looking for waking ned divine and the dead and far and away at my local libraries and the assholes don't have it! come ON...

edit: FOR F***'S SAKE THERE IS SOMEONE ELSE LIVING IN MY CITY THAT HAS CHECKED OUT EVERY SINGLE DVD EVEN MODESTLY RELATED TO THE IRISH FROM EVERY SINGLE LIBRARY WITHIN A 40MIN RANGE... I'm gonna lose it...
