Hallelujah! I was just talking with my mom last night and worrying that the tour was ending! Maybe it will come close enough to me that I'll be able to make it this time around! Smile

*claps hands* Praise be and I have another year to plan around Cats and a purpose to making costumes!

Maybe Last Chance is just an advertising gimmick used to get people to come. I think it applies to the idea that people who want to see Cats and they say that someday they will, but when they see "Last Chance" then they say, "I'd better see it now."

Also I think it applies to "Now and Forever," because both sound lie phrases used to capture a moment in time. Forgive the cliche.

what exactly does "Must do turns in second" mean?
Nemi

Do turns from Second position?

Perhaps.
abbeycat

i assume by 'turns in second' it is referring to the conjouring turn? Confused

*eyes goggle* Exactly how much stamina and practice does that take to do?
CostumeMavenWV

tons of practice . . .

especially if they are doubled.
here's a step by step how to from Pointe Mag.
originally yea, they started from second postion, but here's a good description . . . .

Turns In Second
Expert advice on the fine points of turning in second
By Virginia Johnson

The turning position, as demonstrated by American Ballet Theatre corps de ballet member Danny Tidwell
Grandes pirouettes à la seconde are a bravura step for the male dancer. Wilhelm Burmann, who danced with New York City Ballet and Frankfurt Ballet, among others, coaches such luminaries as Alessandra Ferri, Wendy Whelan, Damian Woetzel and Julio Bocca, and teaches at Steps on Broadway in New York, talks about what makes turns in second work. The following are tips for turning on the left leg to the right in second position.

• While many variations require the man to begin from second position, Burmann prefers to teach turns starting in fourth. “It’s really important that you have the opposition on the right side of your body,” he says. “Take all of your energy from your left side.”

• ”Start the movement with energy and then let it go,“ Burmann continues, explaining that to start the turn, you must send the energy from the center of the body down all the way to your toes. “You actually push yourself onto the leg,“ says Burmann. “Instead of doing a battement to the side, do a jeté to écarté so that all of the energy goes into your toes, not into lifting the leg.“

• Simultaneously take your left hand over to meet the right. “In ballet, the fingers make the port de bras, not the arms,“ says Burmann. When he teaches, he encourages his students to think of coordinating the hands and fingers with the movement rather than the arms.

• The head moves into the turn right away. “Don’t leave your head behind,“ he warns.

• Avoid “popping“ into your relevé. The energy from the plié should move smoothly into the relevé. “The more you turn, the more you have to be connected to the floor.“

• “If you want to do two pirouettes [in second], you have to aim for three. You make two and replace the third one with a balance,“ he says.

• When the leg is in second position, even at a 90-degree angle, Burmann cautions that the chest has a tendency to sink, so it’s important to place the chest well in the turn and to lift the chest as the body comes around to the audience. “This way you can finish with control.“

Yeah it must be that considering that Pouncival performers often understudy Mistoffelees ?

Interesting video Abbeycat but now I have that old song in my head Confused lol

As long as you master the 'whip' of a fouette turn, and build your stamina up you can do it...(i can just about do three, eek!)Ah well, im never going to be Misto so Hakunah Matata!

I think you're right. When it was in Phoenix they didn't start puttin the "last chance" on the ads until the last few weeks before the show, when they heavily promoted it in the local papers. The first few ads when the tix first went on sale are missing the catchphrase.

Considering it was sold out they weren't far wrong.
Drumdraper

I don't think I'm ever going to get enough stamina to do something like that.

I hate false advertising, especially when they cause me to have nightmares about losing Cats. *sigh*
