It'd end up more of a comedy than a psychodrama, but who can see Nathan Lane as a hilarious, but oddly believable, Mama Rose?

I would see it. He would be funny but I can also see him being touching as well.

He's the only drag artist I could ever, EVER see doing the whole show as Rose. Everyone else would reduce it to a one-joke caricature by the end. Lane, however, not only has the right voice for it, but he has the comedic and dramatic chops to walk the fine line the character travels, and, even as a man, be completely believable in the part.

Nathan Lane is one of the most annoying actors. The idea of him touching this show, even as a joke, sends me off to the stalls.

I have, however, always thought that he would make an excellent Edna in Hairspray.

He was the original Edna in workshops... during demos, he was Edna and Wilbur as well.
