Nancy range- when is the high stuff?

I'm not very familiar with the show but plan to buy a cast recording and watch the old movie. a theater is doing it next year and they may be doing a 'youth version' (basically a high school show at a community theater) or they may do it like a normal community theater, I'm not sure yet. So I'm researching just in case. I read that Nancy's range is low G to high G, but all the clips I've heard online so far are pretty low and belty. So when does the high stuff happen? And would there be any other roles for a woman in her late 20's? I'm usually a soprano but have had many alto roles, so I would ideally like to audition for Nancy at this theater. thanks!

High stuff comes in the second act.....Reprise of Fine Life with Fagin and Bill.
Aside from that one number everything is lower and belty.
I am also a soprano, but I have a very wide range (E3 to F6) and a good belt. I have also played a few alto/mezzo roles.
I loved Nancy (my husband was our Bill Sykes) and love As Long As He Needs Me.
The only other female roles in the show are Widow Corney (she is to be older, but you could do it with make up) which is a nice role..., Mrs. Sowerberry (also to be a bit older), Mrs. Bedwin ( also older), Bet and Charlotte (both teenage roles).

Go for Nancy.....
Best wishes!

Most of the role is very low but in the reprise of Fine Life, when its sung with Bill, Dodger and Fagin, she sings up to a G which has sight pause on it right at the very end.

edit, you beat me to it. Wink

I'm also a high soprano, but as it's a big belty role, if you have a good belt voice you can do it easy, as I did. Being a soprano is actually an advantage as the C's, in belt, are easier for us. Wink

Thanks!!

Hopefully this theater is doing it normally, and not like they did their fall show this year, which was... just weird. (Peter Pan as a youth show and the only adults in it were a few pirates and the rest they dressed up in WEIRD animal costumes -had them wander around to fill set change time.

I really just can't imagine a teenager in a community theater playing Fagin or Nancy or Bill or any of those 40+ age men in the show. (I know some high school probably do this show but that's different)

I'll probably be asking for help with audition songs later... like next year. Wink

Hope you get it!
It's the best role I have ever had.
I loved it.

She has got a pretty wide vocal range, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Just keep practicing!

Best Wishes!
music is my life!!!

Nancy should have a massive belt for ALAHNM, and yeah, she has to have a huge range - BUT - the only reason she has to sing high is because she's panicked and angry, so don't worry if your G5 isn't perfect!

Oh, the high stuff is not a problem, I'm really a soprano/mezzo who can sometimes pretend to be an alto/belt. Smile I've had a few roles in the last 5 years that were pretty low so once I practice I can sort of 'settle' into that range, but once I'm out of the show I have to go back to soprano stuff or I lose my range entirely!
Thanks for the help everybody! I'm going to order the CD and start learning some stuff just in case I can audition for the role. The death scene sounds particularly intriguing... Mr. Green

our nancy's scream gave me chills each performance!
