My school Reynolds High, OR is doing Beauty and the Beast!Today, after everyone has waited so long for the musical to be announced, they finally announced it. It's going to be Beauty and the beast, and we are going to be the first high school on the west coast to do it!! I am so incredibly excited! But the thing is, we don't have many guys who can sing right now, so I don't know what's going to happen. I really really like Lumiere, but he has a pretty small role, and the director wants me to try out for beast. So i dunno... I really like his character and "Be our Guest", and i don't really like the beast's. but yay!! I can't wait for next year!! |

That's exciting and good luck! Is it going to be the Broadway version with the score and script? Are the rights available? Thanks!

Lumiere has a large part... he's one of the three most important "castleware" characters (Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts are the other two). Not to mention the showstopping number Be Our Guest. He's also my favorite character.
Good luck with this, though! You are really lucky! |

That's so cool!
Actually, I would say Lumiere is one of the largest parts in the show and could definitely outshine some of the larger characters if done right. |

hmm..Well now I kinda like the Beast's songs...hehehe...but I don't think i have the type of voice for it, I don't have a "beastly" voice or anything. I'll just try out for both and see what happens. If I get either part, I'll be jealous of whoever has the other part. I have the whole french dialect down great, and I just look like a Lumiere. And Lumiere has the best song in the show, I believe. But then Beast is the main role... Ooo i can't wait!!! |

contractOh and the contract that the director and the choral and pit directors had to sign was kinda wacky. It said that they and the crew had to Disneyesque or something. I guess they can't be mean, rude, and "undisney" or else the Disney Gestapo will come after us. They have to be Happy Happy Disney people. In the contract it says the costumes can't be exactly like the costumes in the Broadway show, but they have to be very close....riiiight. Also they said we can't associate with or advertise in our program firearms and "feminine hygiene products".Oh and we found out we can't have real fire coming out of Lumiere's candlesticks..the fire marshall said no no...*tear* We'll have some kinda of gel thing with lights in it that looks just like flames though. This'll be so much fun, we'll have wires and flying things and flash pots and stuff though, and everything! I can't wait for school to start!!! I'll post pictures of it when we start rehearsing! |
