My school is doing this.So, there's a high chance my school will do The Music Man this year, and I was wondering which part I should aim to get. I'm a junior, very tall, and I'm a bass, with a range from lower than anything in this show to F#4. Songs won't be an issue, she'll just hand out some sheet music to choose from. Which part should I aim for? I'm thinking about Harold Hill.

I say save Harold Hill for a senior. Go for something like Marcellus or the Mayor.

well you have a very good range for harold hill which is Baritone, A flat to high F, 25-35
although it depends on your height and weight, to be harold you can't be too skinny or too short compared to the rest of the cast.
and if you really are the right height, size and range then yeah go for it!
o and here are the vocal ranges for some other roles you could try out:
Marcellus Washburn (Tenor, G to high A)
Mayor Shinn (Non-Singing)
Jacey a Quartet member (B to High A)

Going for Harold? Well, coming from a man who just recently finished playing him in a summer stock production, what will really earn you the role is your acting. I mean, it's nice if Harold is a good singer/dancer too, but his personality and charisma are more important than those. Also, I wouldn't say height is a huge issue. I'm 5'9", a tad out of shape, and was one of the shorter guys in the cast, but I still got the role. I'd say the only characters that it really matters you being taller than are Marian and maybe Marcellus. You sound like you fit the part so just go in there and give 'em all some serious "trouble"!

Well, my school announced that it is doing this. I'm going to shoot for Harold Hill, but if I can't get that, I'll shoot for Tommy, Mayor Shinn, or the Bass in the Quartet. Or anyone else, for that matter.
And thank you, AH, but those two singing roles you mentioned I can't do because, as I have already stated, I am a bass.

All the charaters are really great so what ever you get i'm sure you'll do awsome.
But when the cast list comes out tell us what you got!
