My own version of Gethsemane :)Hi guys,Wow, I've been looking for a site like this in so long! It's everything I hoped so far! I've been doing some home demos of some songs from the shows over the past 2 days and I have just put up 'Gethsemane' today! I trust you guys to give honest feedback and all I wanted to do was to do a little bit of justice to a phenomenal song. I hope you like it, and any advice or comments are sooo welcome. You can find it here.... http://www.myspace.com/tjatthemusicals Take care all Tj x |

You have a very strong tenor voice...you sound a lot like Steve Balsamo.
Here's a karaoke version of the 2000 Orchestrations: http://mowpt.dyndsl.com/Adam/Da%20JCS.scam/Gethsemane%20Collection/Karaoke%20Versions/2000%20Movie%20Gethsemane%20Karaoke.mp3 Try that one. It's much more like Balsamo's. |

Thank you mate! Firstly for your kind words, and also for that backing track! I have searched far and wide for that! You are a star! I can't seem to download it though, how would I go about that?

Aah, it's my crappy server.
Here's the file on Megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9UJF0LRX I have Heaven On Their Minds as well, and a Gethsemane that was modified with more of a rockish kick, if you want either of them. |

| Tj@themusicals |
Cheers buddy! If you know anyone else who might like a listen to my version, please do let them know. I'm really keen on getting feedback |

Wow. You have an amazing voice!
Do you like Wicked because i'm doing an online recording in the Wicked forum? I would love it if you auditioned for Fiyero! |

Oh please! Do post Heaven on their minds! |
||||
| Tj@themusicals |
Wow, you guys are sooo lovely I'm having a ball recording these tracks, in fact I should try heaven on their minds as I doubt I would ever get cast in the role of Jesus! I still haven't checked out Wicked, but I've heard great things about it! x |

I'm not one to give out false praise so I mean it when I say, that is the best rock scream for Gethsamane I've ever heard. If you can get some more power behind your singing, you'll be great.
| Tj@themusicals |
Thank you ever so much mate! I know there are lots of holes in my vocal but I'm never going to stop until it's ready to go on stage with. I know this is what I want to do now. Your words are so encouraging!
Most of the links you have given for HOTM and some of those Les Mis ones are all the same, and are all Stars mate. That's not right is it? |

Ok we know you can sing the song well. Good. I found you're inturpurtation a little boring, it seemed like you were holding back a bit, trying to fit into some of the Balsamo stylings. From what I heard you have strong instincts and should trust them. Throw out the Balsamo influence (as much as you can consciously) and stay true to your instincts and you'll come up with something truly unique.
So like I said, you can sing the song...that's the easy part. It's time to break the song down as you would a scene or monologue. You really need to do a lot of work to hash out specifics. Things right now seem very general, a general fear and apprehension, a general anger. The more specific you can get the more moving your performance will be. You're objective is a little muddled, and it just seems like theres a whole lot of grounding you can do...there's alot of work involved but it's worth it. And don't feel discouraged, most people don't get this far. If you're familiar with the Singer Method of approaching a scene or monologue, or if you have ever used Uta Haggen's 9W approach to building a character, either of these things will be super helpful. As well as Michael Shurtleff's 12 guideposts. If you have no idea what these are PM me and I'll explain further. You're a refreshing voice. Someone with real potential who has guts. Now it's time to bring your performances to the next level. I really hope you consider putting the time in to do that, because it will be worth it, not only for yourself, but also for all those who have the privilage of seeing you perform. Jesus |
||||
| Tj@themusicals |
Once again, that is a fantastic response. Just what I need to hear to help me along the way. I will need you to explain the Singer Method of approaching a scene further as I have never had a singing lesson in my life.
It's funny you say about Steve Balsamo, I don't knowingly want to sound like him, in fact I was singing like this before I had heard of him but as I have worked on my voice perhaps his influence has now kicked in a little. Thank you again for your words. Tj |

Sorry, I must've added the wrong links.
I'll get it up later! |

AMAZING! | ||||
| Tj@themusicals |
Thanks matey!
Just to say, I have recently acquired a new backing track which is alot rockier, so I may be tempted to give it another go sometime! x |

| Lord Moe |
much better than mine man. way to make me feel insignificant, lol
Bravo , you've got some great talent.
|
||||
| shakalakababy |
wow, you said on your page that you're untrained? Does that mean you've never had a voice lesson? if so, that is truly amazing. You have a very nice voice. Gethsemane is one of my favorite songs from JCS and you truly did it justice, keep up the good work! |
||||
| Tj@themusicals |
Lol, thanks guys! Yeah, I've not had any lessons yet. Maybe soon though!!!
xx |
||||
| Lord Moe |
Seriously, I would look into it as soon as you can. I HIGHLY recommend it. If you're this good without lessons, vocal training would unlock potential that you never knew that you had. Get a good vocal teacher and reach for the stars man, because you have some awesome raw talent man! |

| kittengoespop |
I smell a troll in thevoiceofrock.
| Matthew |
Oh I love Mungo. I was just listening to the song in French. Yummmm. |
||||
| Tj@themusicals |
I didn't understand a word of that, sorry. x |
||||
| Lord Moe |
i don't think anyone did, lol
| thevoiceofrock |
he tanked the high note (what you show people call a "rock scream" even though it s a sung note with vibrato power and control ) he missed the entire run( this is why ian gillian is god and well ted neeley an actor) and only very few of us can do it correctly i think he can NAIL it with a little more practice. you have a phenomenal voice. All the Best and as far as the "troll " comment is that some kind of DnD term? As an actual world class pro vocalist that does 275 dates a year internationally and having turned down the role of jesus several times. i was making a simple comment. so troll that
| Tj@themusicals |
Cool, cheers for clearing that up bud, I just hadn't heard of some of those terms before.
x |
||||
| Lord Moe |
I'm not really a fan of Gillan's interpretation. But then again we all have our own opinions.
By the way, a troll is generally a person who just sets out to annoy people. That's the blunt definition. |
||||
| jcstar |
Listen:
Gillan created the scream in Gethsemane. We all owe something to HIM for doing that. It was his idea, and ALW and TR thought it was better than what they had intended. Fenholt took what Gillan did and did it his way. I love his run on the "oh oh oh oh..." He payed tribute to what Gillan did. Neeley simply augmented the timing of the scream. Nothing more. I DO love how he hits a second high-G in "Alright I'll die!" Most tend to do the C note. Several others have done Fenholt/Gillan/Neeley impressions, but I'm not sure if anyone can do a DANNY ZOLLI. Wow. That guy can scream. I have a live version oif him performing Gethsemane and he blows my head off everytime I hear it. By the end of his version, I'm always crying. It's THAT damn good. Then there's people who do different screams: John Farnham, Stephen Seale, Eric Kunze. All have different takes on the scream. They're original and refreshing. Tj, take a listen to some of these guys. I would love top hear you do something like that... but make it a little more... you. There has to be an original take on the song. Andy. |
||||
| Tj@themusicals |
Cool, I think I really do need to hear these guys, I've not heard Gillan, Fenholy or Zolli, so I think that should be my next move. I don't have a gravel like rock voice so I guess I need to still stick to what I know though.

My Gethsemane is there. Let's just say that the difference between mine and yours is laughable, lol. Why can't I be that good? You have so much potential man. Seriously, take what I said earlier seriously. If you want to see your true potential come through, get a good voice teacher. Don't forget to have fun |
||||
| Tj@themusicals |
Cheers mate, will check yours out now. I am really wanting to get hold of some of these versions that have been mentioned, any idea where I can?

||||
| Tj@themusicals |
You are a legend!
The second and third ones didnt work mate. xx |
||||
| Lazarus (Adam G) |
Hmm...they seem to be working.
I think you know where to find them, though. |
||||
| jcstar |
For Ian Gillan, Jeff Fenholt, John Farnham and others that I mentioned... you can easily order them through your local record store. The CD's go from $12 to $30. If you're a JCS fan, you should have the actual CD's in you collection.
Also, you'll be giving ALW and TR money. I'm not going to get into the downloading/bootlegging stuff. I think some people know where I stand on that. (Which reminds me... Laz, please PM me at WTB. I have a small complaint from one of the JCS castmembers that I have interviewed...) Andy. |
||||
| Lazarus (Adam G) |
That's exactly why you DON'T want to buy them. Anyway, a complaint? Oh God, here comes the lawsuite... Let this be known: I'm not going down without a fight. |
||||
| jcstar |
Relaz, my child. Relax. By the way, what's a lwasuite? Hmmm... "law suite" give me an idea for a song... Andy. |
||||
| Lazarus (Adam G) |
I suppose it's a pleasant version of a law suit. |
