My High School's is FINALLY doing it!Squeeeee! I'm so happy right now. It's FINALLY been announced what we are doing and we have an 'unoffical' director! And the best part is that I guessed a week ago that this was our most likely choice and now we are doing it!
Now that I'm done celebrating....eh, this isn't really a 'Help me with my audition' thread or anything...just kinda of an update for MdNers who love me and FotR.
Auditions are like in a month or so! I'm a junior this year and will definately be auditioning for Hodel and Chava, possibly Tzietzel or Golde(but unlikely). In real life, I am your Chava(without the dance experince) but talent wise at my school...I'm probably our best choice for a Hodel and I've had Far From the Home I Love down for two years now and I sing it better than all the girls who learned it last year for NYSSMA.
I'm really psyched right now. I'm almost memorized the order of scenes and songs from my script.

Awesome, best of luck to you. Any of the three older daughters or Golde would be an absolutely excellent role.

Eh...well....we had some concerns from many students over if we'd have enough people to do the show and if we even had a Teyve. The one guy whom I thought would be perfect turned out was a tenor(He was the King last year in OUAM, so I didn't know )
So...we are now reconsidered. The seniors and I are pushing for Sweeney, which we have the cast for and our directors would love to do, it's just a matter of whether the school would ever considered it. I mean, we can't do Gyspy because of the ending here yet an occasional swearword, pregnancies, are fine.
But the two shows are directors have considered and suggested are the Wedding Singer and Godspell. I know nothing about either. Personally, I'd love to still do Fiddler, but if we don't have the cast, then we don't have the cast...

A tenor could be Tevye. His part isn't that low...yes there's the A-flat in "Tevye's Monologue," but you can always fake one problem note if he doesn't have it. My Tevye was the resident dramatic tenor of the city's opera society.

Awwww, I did "Fiddler" last year and it was one of the best times of my life. I had to sacrifice a lot with the phrase "I can't, I have rehearsal" and I have no regrets. Absolutely none.
If a high school won't do "Gypsy", then they can't do "Sweeney Todd". There is no way the school board will let them. And "Sweeney Todd" requires too many men, which you may be short of? Convince your friend to do "Fiddler" - if he really wants to be Tevye and the directors know that, you'd have a better chance.
"Godspell" sounds like TONS of fun. It's not a show on my list of dreams, but it's close to it. Fun music, fun dancing and silliness... and VERY dramatic!

We have just enough guys for all the leads in both Sweeney and Fiddler, just then we'd have none in the chorus.
I still want to do Fiddler. I'm not finding much to make me like Godspell or Wedding Singer.

Well then, "Sweeney" doesn't have such a big chorus? And "Fiddler" wouldn't need it so much. The smaller roles like the Rabbi's son and Fyedka (in most of it) can be double-casted, so Fyedka could be a chorus member until/unless he needed to be Fyedka.

You do kind of need a chorus, though. Papas, Mamas, Sons, and Daughters, all divided up and singing in counterpoint, remember. And when the smaller roles are onstage, they are all onstage together.

Well, we had four sons - Fyedka, Motel, Perchik, and a bottle dancer in different costumes.
In other words, you can pull off "Fiddler", but not very well, compared to how you could pull off "Godspell" or something.

All the Russian Gentiles - Constable, Priest, Fyedka, "His Honor many others" - usually walk across the front of the stage while Tevye talks about "the others in a much bigger circle". The actors playing those parts would have to be ready.

I always love the irony that they are a "much bigger circle," when in fact, as far as the cast goes, the Jews usually outnumber the Gentiles at least five to one.

We're doing FotR at my school too! I dont think I'm going to do it this year though. It's my senior year and I've done it every year up until now but I don't really know much about FotR and last year our show was a huge flop selling very few tickets because we did a very old, somewhat obscure show, though I'm sure many people on here (because you are familiar with theatre) would know it. We did Anything Goes. I really wanted to do Rent:school edition. Or Seussical (which I've been fighting for for 2 straight years! lol). I would've loved to do Into The Woods too! So many choices. But nope, FotR. *sigh*

I'm not doing it anymore though for various reasons stated above.

I saw. Well good luck with whatever new show they pick. I honestly don't know how we're going to do FoTR either, now that I've learned a little bit from reading this thread.I think, without me, there are 3 guys in our usual cast. And we have a small cast to begin with, not that many girls either! So if FoTR requires a large chorus and has more than 3 male roles i have no idea how our director is planning to pull it off!

Well......
Our unoffical director is not the director! So we have new people....which means more people might quit.
And I was really starting to like Godspell, I returned my Fiddler script and movie to the library....and then they announced they are going to go ahead and do Fiddler anyways!
*sigh* I think they're crazy, but I'll go along with this.

lmao. Have fun. I dont think my school is capable of pulling off fiddler to be honest... i dont think we have a large enough cast.

AAAHHHH!!!!
Auditions are in TWO weeks and it's the same week as everything else that's going on in the world. I got my script back and I also read Teyve's Daughters(the book the show was based on!) and it was a really good read, I think I picked up a lot of insight just reading even a few chapters. I recommend it to anyone.
But I have to come up with a song. But this year, we can do ANY musical song from any show. Obviously, since I'm going mainly for the daughters, I want your typical pretty voice mezzo-soprano song. And did I mention I have two weeks and I also need to memorize my other songs for other auditions that land in that same week?
I'm thinking about doing Far From the Home I Love.
Pros:
I've done it before for NYSSMA and in workshops
I can sing it really well
I know it=less time needed to learn it
Cons:
It's from the show. In the past we always had to sing a show from the show, but do you think it would hurt my chances to be the only one doing a song from Fiddler?
I'm already stressed out from everything that's going on right now, so if you know a cure to prevent stressful panic attacks, that would be great too.

I wouldn't think you'll be the only one doing it if you do decide to. Half of the Hodels will always sing "Far From the Home I Love."

^You'd think that, except I'm the only one to have picked it. That could change though, hopefully not.

Fiddler's a giant show for a high school. Our high school did it and it was a nightmare, but it turned out all right. Then again, if you're thinking of doing Sweeney or Gypsy, you must have quite a powerful drama club. It's a great show though! Good luck!

Hmm, I don't know if it's necessarily a giant show. My school has a cast of 40 and 63 auditioned...I know a lot of schools with similar numbers
