My HIGH SCHOOL is doing it...

Yeah my high school is actually doing it! Lead auditions are on the 24th this month!! I really want Sarah. Any pointers on that from past Sarahs. Or like any advice for the show in general? I have read the book and watched the movie and I got the student version CD and I have been working this for months now! Me and my friend are doing a pair audition. We are doing "Wheels of a Dream" and for call backs if we are asked to seperate, I am doing "Daddy's Son" and he is doing "Colehouse's Syloque" ((Sorry SP)) and if we aren't seperated we will do "Sarah Brown Eyes" I am so excited I could burst!! What do you guys think about a high school doin' Ragtime? Sarah? I also wanted to know from like your point of view is a pairs audition bad? Anthing about auditioning tips??ANYTHING? I got the impression that you all were HELLA' EXPERIENCED!! So yeah, please anything I wanna know...

Thanks,

Cassie

I go to an all girls school, so I do my school's show and the local all boys school's shows. The boys school is doing Ragtime. Though I am a little uneasy about it because they have no black people.

My high school did this play last year (I was in it, also) and it truly is all that it is meant to be. Wonderful. To play Sarah you really have to be able to show that you can have different kinds of acting in a play. She goes from a quiet crazy person, to a mother regretting what she did, to a woman who can't stand Coalhouse, to a woman loving him, to getting angry that he won't marry her until all sorts of things are done, etc.....either way, you have to show that you can change a lot. It really isn't an extremely hard part, it does have it's hard parts, and requires great acting, but I think the only dancing for this part is in Sarah Brown Eyes and that is hard because Sarah and Coalhouse aren't supposed to touch. Good luck with your audition, just remember to have fun and be serious at the same time and you should do fine.
