My Gethsemanehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhRbC6JsazsWell there it is. I'm 17 years old if you were wondering. Now, be honest. Criticise, tell me I'm great, tell me I suck balls, tell me I'm girlier than Glenn Carter. I need the criticism if I don't sound good, because I have plenty of time to make it better if I don't sound good. I will always be trying to improve upon myself, so if you see something wrong, let me know. I still have a lot of improving to make with my voice and my acting. So please be honest, I can take harsh criticism. |

Okay--First I'll start with the positives because that's what you really want to hear right?????
--If I was 17 and sounded this good, I WOULD BE AMAZZZING RIGHT NOW. You have a lot going for you. You have good tone, and have some good acting skills. I wish I had that, when I was your age. Theres no telling what I could be doing. --You do get into the song, which is a plus. But maybe you get into a little bit...too much...I will cover that, a little bit later. --Dont EVER be discouraged, by ANY negative criticism--because THIS IS A DIFFICULT SONG. Probably the most difficult one in Superstar, right behind Heaven on their minds--which I think takes the cake. But it is definitely the HARDEST that Jesus sings. Tackling this song, takes a lot of courage- and considering you are only 17 years old!-- Damn, that takes a hell of a lot of balls. So be encouraged!-- I am not even sure, I would take that song.
Okay What do you need to work on? DISCLAIMER: I am by no means, a music professor...so anyway... Take it or leave it--this is one peer talking to the next. --You seem to talk alot of the song. I think thats unecessary. It detracts away from your voice. --You were flat a couple of times, at the beginning, cant remember were--but it was flat. --On the "SEEEE HOW I DIEEEE" "DIEEE" I am sorry... Sounded like you were taking after Mr. Carter. It wasnt very powerful, infact it was kind of humorous. This goes back to the fact--Of what I feel about this score. I think that Rock Tenors should do this song. Because, It sounds kind of funny when it isnt done right, and the powerful, gritty, "DIEEE"'s are awesome.... Especially when Neeley does them. THIS My friend, is the most hardest part of the song. Like I said before, just that you attempted it-- takes a lot of balls. That "G" is no picnic. --You overplay it a little bit too much. Remember Jesus, is about to be crucified, he is talking to God the Father-- He is sad and tired, He feels down trotten. I cant really see your face expressions--but I think if you played the angle of a man, who is about to have the most unthinkable thing happen--it would be cool. Instead I think it looks too argumentive. It has to be to a certain extent....But maybe not that much. Anyway thats all I have. Good Luck!!!! KEEP SINGING! You did great! (But remember there is a difference between great and amazing!!!!) Break a Leg, Dave. |

Thanks for the criticism! It really means a lot to me. Yeah, I remember where I went downright flat, it was "from any other man". lol, when I first heard this video over again (because you need to hear yourself recorded, it's not the same in your head) I cringed.
But really, thanks for the positive AND specifically the negative critisism you gave me I decided that the next time I'm in this kind of thing (it was a benefit) I'm probably going to sing "Music of the Night" and "Heaven on Their Minds". Two songs you have to tackle right into. But I don't know when that'll happen. |
