My audition for The Wedding Singer

It said in Backstage that they need an IMMEDIATE replacemtn for Holly in the Wedding Singer to start literally the next day, and they would tell you that day if you got the part or not.

So I am soo excited about this because of course THIS IS MY PART! And also, I auditioned for a Networks production, Hairspray Nat'l tour, and made it to the 4th and final callback.

There is probably a little over 50 girls there. We get there, dance, they cut half of us. Then we dance again for them, then they cut some more. Then the people that stayed were asked to sing. Then about 10 girls were asked to sing one of Holly's songs, including me! So i sang it, they called me in to sing it again for them and hit them right on both times! Then they got down to 6 of us and had us read for them with the other lead girl in the show. Meanwhile, keep in mind I am soo pleased with myself because not at one moment during this process have i said"oh I sucked. oh, I could've done that better" I gave them my absoulute best performance.

After the last 6 of us read. The director came out and shook all of our hands and said we would know by the end of the night. Of course, no phonecall. Btw, 2 of the last six girls were already cast in the show and understudies for Holly. I'm almost positive one of them got it....

Ugh I am so sick of getting so close thennn NOTHING at all. It just seems inevitable that i will end up back where i started no matter how far in the audition process i may go.

But I also just graduated high school and even though it doesnt say it on my resume i think they can kinda tell. who knows. Sad

Goodness me you have done EXTREMELY well for just graduating from high school! This should give you a tremendous confidence boost! They would be taking a huge risk hiring a girl straight out of school without any training or professional work on her CV "proving" that she can do 8 shows a week month after month. It's a business after all, and they have to go with what is "safe" often, rather than with who may be the most talented, best singer, cutest looking, etc etc. So it makes total sense to hire someone who is already in the show and understudying. Sounds like they are in a crisis situation there right now and they need to make sure the girl hired can deal with the pressure if anything else - and of course someone already in the show itself - will be a safer choice. Go and train, learn your craft, gain experience, and then come back to wow them even more! Well done, give yourself a pat on the back. Cool

...You got to the final six for a replacement in a Broadway show.

That's incredible.

You...are amazing.

Don't be hard on yourself at ALL. You should be freaking out and jumping up and down.

That's fantastic! Not that you didn't get a call, but that you made it so far! For all you know, they could be looking for a new understudy in 3 months. Which handful of girls do you think they'll be looking at for that? Or the next time they're doing a workshop. So you never know! Stay positive and keep doing what you're doing. Your break will come. I thought the Wedding SInger closed already...
jazzygirlsings

It did...but basically, like a lot of other stuff that closes, the first national tour is usually made up largely of the cast that was in the Broadway show...and it's usually run by the same people who did the bway casting...

Ohhhh... I didn't realize (realise?) it was touring. That's cool. Congrats, tinydancer.
