Must you be Equity to go to an Equity audition?well the title is pretty self explanatory but i think i mightve heard someone say before that you are allowed to go to an equity audition if you're not equity... is that true? has anyone ever done this before?

I don't think so, unless the theatre has stated they are accepting both equity and non-equity players.

You CAN go to Equity auditions but it is not guaranteed that you will be seen. You can go and ask the monitor if they will be seeing any non-Equity that day. They may put you at the end of the list and see you IF they have time at the end of the day.

you can go, but you'll be seen last, if at all. you cuold be waiting all day and then not be seen....i really don't think it's a good idea, but if you have a lot of time to waste, then go for it!

I go to EPA's all the time...
It is as Deester says...They put you on a separate non-Equity list and call non-Equity people when there is nobody in an audition slot, an Equity person shows up late for their audition slot, etc...
At a lot of EPA's, the Equity people can sign up for their audition times...if they want to go at 3pm and are at the front of the line, then they sign up for that slot...At a Broadway call, I was seen at 10:30am because nobody was in that slot...
Even at the Equity building, they have sign-up sheets that are right by the Equity sign-up sheets...They also have what I lovingly call the "Non-Equity benches of shame". They don't even let you into the Equity waiting area. You are on a long bench in the hall and just sit and wait to be called.
Sometimes, they will say they aren't seeing non-Equity people, but will still let you give your headshot/resume to the information desk.
But yeah...if you have a day to kill, then go...you never know what will happen!

What's fairly common around here is they'll take Equity appointments first, then have a block of time when non-Equity people can call and try to schedule an appt if they still have open slots (and IF you can get thru!).
None of the Equity houses here have open calls, everything is by appt except when they cast extras.
