Musicals in LondonHello everyone
This is my first post on this message board. I have a question to all of you. Next year in February I'm going to London. Of course I want to seize this opportunity to see a musical. I'm doubting between Les Misérables, Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. I have never seen a musical on Broadway or in London. The only musicals I've seen are the Belgian versions of Beauty and the Beast, Dracula and Cinderella. Next year I'm also going to see the Dutch version of Les Misérables.
Could anyone give me some advice? Which musical is really worth seeing in London? Thanks in advance.

There are lots to choose from!
Hairspray and Wicked are both excellent, but if you want to see something British, Willy Russell's Blood Brothers is incredible (and also very cheap because it's been on so long). It's one of my favourites - great music and a very strong story.
The Sound of Music and Joseph are also worth seeing.
Steer well clear of The Lord of the Rings (especially if you're a fan of the books or films) because it is terrible!

Wicked, Avenue Q, Lord of the Rings, Hairspray are all good.

See something unique to London. Don't bother with Phantom or Les Mis or Wicked or any of those - you can see them anywhere.
Billy Elliot is good, Blood Brothers too (if you like that sort of thing). Also see The Woman in Black.
Lord of the Rings will be the most amazing visual thing you've ever seen before but don't go expecting more than that (and is worth going just to see The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane).

| POTO has six productions worldwide now, only one in Europe (the other ones are in the US, Australia and Japan). So "anywhere" isn't really.... a covering term.... "Mamma Mia" can be seen everyhere, though.
Personally I would head for "Spamalot" (Monty Python), "Chicago", "Phantom of the Opera" (I personally think the West End production is the best, because of updated orchestration and light design, plus some unique features only seen in London) or "Avenue Q".
If you're into plays, "Woman in Black" (not to be confused with ALWs "Woman in White" musical) is lots of fun. It's scary and dark and truly enjoyable. Also, "Mousetrap" is a legend.

I'd go for Blood Brothers! I've only heard a revival cast recording, but the story is great. You might get sick of hearing about Marilyn Monroe towards the end, but it's worth it.

yeah I'd go for blood brothers. It's a really unique and British play. There's so many funny moments sad moments and brilliant songs.

Mousetrap was a really fun play, and it's quite unique to London, considering it's been open for about fifty years.
Of course, my immediate reaction is Les Mis, but I'd hold off if you have a tour coming near you or something soon, since it is more common than, say, Blood Brothers.

I've seen most shows in London and I would definitly reccommend Billy Elliot.
Don't see Les Mis, the Fantine at the moment is awful (saw it 2 weeks ago)

In your opinion. I thought she was great.

I would say the two musicals I have seen, Phantom and Wicked were both excellent when I saw them here in the US. Les Mis has great music too. I don't know anything about other musicals in the West End.

Eh - there's more to life than Les Mis and Wicked. Blood Brothers is an acquired taste. I'd recommend Lord of The Rings as it's a unique theatrical experience, in a beautiful theatre that probably won't travel anywhere.
The Woman in Black (play) is good; it has the same status as The Mousetrap - both thrilling and long running plays. The ENO at The London Colosseum is beautiful - as well as anything at The Royal Opera House - if your budget can allow for that!
