Musical links in CATS

I've just read the Jessica Sternfeld book on megamusicals and I really enjoyed her enlightening chapter on CATS. It set me thinking about some nuances in the music that may have excaped many ears.
1. Has anyone ever noticed that the sprightly section of The Old Gumbie Cat (i.e. the passage from When the day's hustle... to ...basement to creep) is derived from the so-called Jellicle theme, the synthesiser tag at the end of Memory? The so-alled Jellicle theme is also hinted at twice during the Mistoffelees dance.
2. A comparison between In Una Tepida Notte and the so-called Molesey verse in Growltiger's Last Stand shows that In Una Tepida Notte is not exactly new music. It is a slight adaptation from the section that begins "Now on a peaceful summer night, all nature seemed at play."

Una Tepida Notte is just a translation of that verse, so it makes sense for them to use a variation of the same music. It's supposed to be a melodramatic piece that, when coupled with the actions of the characters, goes wayyy over the top, but it's not supposed to be brilliant or classy.
