Musical BookI was searching for a good book who'll be like a "making of" from a broadway musical. How it all began, the audition, etc...
I already red the Rent book and I loved it. The Wicked one don't seem to be what I'm searching for, and Avenue Q too...
Thanks to those who will answer my question!

I believe "The Who's Tommy" musical book might be a good example of what you're looking for.
Isn't there one for YAGMCB?

I would like to recommend the two Laurence Maslon books about Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals, the companions on South Pacific and The Sound of Music. They are so affectionately written, and they chronicle the musicals concerned as cultural icons. I know some of the other books focus on the Broadway stage production, but these holistic books focus on the musicals as a whole.
At the same time might I recommend the Jessica Sternfeld book on megamusicals? It's a wonderful and readable book about this genre of show, to which Cats, POTO and Les Mis belong. I especially like the analysis on Cats and it has made me crave for a proper book about this ALW musical.

the best book you can ever read about a shows growing pains is "Everything WasPossible" by Ted Chapin. now a successful Broadway producer, he was a mere assistant of the historic original production of Sondheim and Goldman's "Follies". its in depth, and completely brilliant.
