Music and Lyrics...OMG!I FINALLY got a chance to see the movie I was an extra in...I GOT A CLOSE-UP!!!!!!!! And not just a "blink or you'll miss it" close-up...this thing was like, 5-10 seconds of JUST ME! LMAO! I had enough time to think, "Wow...that's me...I look great!...OMG!!!!! THAT'S ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and then I said, "OMG!!!!!!! THAT'S ME!!!!!!!!!!!" And then the frame changed! LOL! The people around me were cracking up! It was so funny! And then I thought, "Where the hell was that camera?" I never saw that one! LOL! I'm ALL OVER the class reunion scene! You can see me doing the famous "Pop" motorcycle push, "OOOOO'ing" at Hugh, and my personal favorite, the shoving scene between me and Kristen Johnson. It actually wasn't supposed to focus and look like it was between me and Kristen specifically, it was actually supposed to be more about the girl on her right...but the way they filmed it, it was all me vs. her! LOL! Anyways...that was my first (and LAST!) extra job...I mean...you just CAN'T top that! LMAO! I have heard from people I haven't seen in months/years because of this movie! "I saw you on screen!" HEE HEE! Okay...enough braggin...but dude...it was cool! And the movie itself was actually quite cute! |
||||
| Kaaatrina |
YOU WERE ONE OF THOSE CRAZY GIRLS AT THE REUNION!??!
You are soooo lucky!!! I saw that movie and I was seriously cracking up on that scene. That is so cool!! |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
I had my hair pulled back in a bun and was wearing my hot black Michael Kors dress...And seriously, you couldn't miss me! I was front and center! Here's my famous "shoving" moment with Kristen...(I know! I'm lame! My friend had stills made from the trailer! LOL!)
|
||||
| Robinflamingo |
You are NOT lame. If I had been visible in any of the movies I was an extra in, I would have them FRAMED!!!! Way to go!~
| jazzygirlsings |
LOL! Thanks, Robinflamingo!
Okay...I am NOT lame! I am dellusional if I post myself on IMDB.com and I am dellusional if I put it on my resume, but bragging about it on m.net is NOT LAME! HEE HEE! When I get a copy of the DVD, I'm SO gonna get a shot of my prolonged (and long awaited! LOL!) close-up! I was just happy that scene wasn't cut! LOL! |
||||

Nice. That will make the best avatar ever!

OMG! I can't wait to see the movie... How do you get a job as an extra? A family friend of mine got chosen to extra in a movie they were shooting at her school. I hadn't seen her in several years and all she talked about was the experience being the extra.
| jazzygirlsings |
^but I LOVE "Audition"! LOL! Don't know if I could replace that! BTW...(totally unrelated)...I STILL haven't gotten a chance to really go through your musical, but now that I'm Director of Creative Development, I will definitely be going through it for my theatre company for upcoming stuff! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you about that in awhile! Just know I haven't forgotten you! |

That is so cool!!
I went to see this movie last week and LOVED it! I can remember that part it was so funny! lol I loved the movie so much I have just ordered the soundtrack Congrats Jazzy! Oh, and did you get to meet Drew Barrymore? I love her!! |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
^Though she wasn't filming with us on the first day, she did pop onto the set and made the SWEETEST announcement. She's really a nice person. She just said she was happy that we were all there and that we rolled out of bed so early for the shooting...and that she looked forward to working with us on the second day...
But I definitely met and talked to Kristen Johnson...She only shoved me around for an hour or so for that shot! LOL! (You should never talk to the actors unless they talk to you first!) And all the girls died when Hugh Grant came up to me and talked to me about extra work, my background, etc...he seriously had no clue how we all got jobs...(or maybe he just liked the cleavage my dress was showin'! LOL!) And Brad Garrett was scared he was gonna walk over me during the "Knott's Berry Farm line"...He's a sweetie, too! AND SUPER TALL! LOL! Actually, I had started out in the middle of the crowd of crazies and they kept moving me to the front...probably because I was one of the craziest! LOL! When they turned the cameras toward the audience for the audience shots, some angry SAG woman said, "Class of 1987...hmmmf...looks more like the class of 1997"...and I turned around and said, "1998!" Afterall, I wasn't expecting anything from this...I'm just an extra...LOL! So even if I hadn't gotten into the movie at all, it was an AMAZING experience! |

I'm so excited for you! Way to be a sassy ho and get out of the L&L/R&H box by beating up people in movies and sassing back to people make sarcastic remarks about what year you graduated!
| jazzygirlsings |
Thanks! And yeah...someone was BITTER! But it sure as heck wasn't ME!!!! LOL! Have you seen the movie yet, MaryMag? It's actually pretty cute! (And my friend, Amanda, has a close up in the "Madison Square Garden" scene!) |
||||
| MaryMag |
Ummm... I despise romantic comedies and anything with Hugh Grant in it...
But gimme a movie like 300 any day! Horrendously cheesy action sequences and CGI'ed muscles! Bring it on! |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
^Actually, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...Even my bf said he enjoyed it...so that was kinda cool...I was going into the movie thinking it would be a waste of two hours (minus the scene I'm in, of course!), but I was pleasantly surprised...
| MsDivaKate |
Ooo now I'm definitely going to see it!
I'd been wanting to see it for awhile anyways and I was planning on taking my sister, so now I really have an excuse to go! |
||||
| Lena |
OMG, that's soooo endlessly cool hehehe..... |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
My Mom literally yelled, "OMG! That's my DAUGHTER!!!!!!!!!" LOL! You would think I won the Oscar for "Best Extra Work in a Film"... But yeah, it was pretty surreal...and then I got to thinking..."Gee...If this was an Imax screen, I would be like 70 feet tall!" LOL! The coolest part is that everyone who goes to see it keeps calling me to say, "OMG!" LOL! It totally cracks me up! |
||||
| Laura |
thats awesome! congratulations! now i have even more reason to see the movie! ill look ot for you!!

Congrats, Jazzy. Someday, you'll be in Kristen Johnson's spot. I can't wait to see Music and Lyrics. Heck, you're better... you'll be in Drew Barrymore's spot.
| jazzygirlsings |
Gosh, I can only hope! Kristen's from WI, too...we had a good talk about it, though I must admit, I don't want to be built like that...she's HUGE! |
||||

No way are you lame - that is SOOOOOOOOOO COOL!!!!!!
|

I actually never saw this post...sorry! To address your question: There are a number of casting offices that specifically cast extras for films. I sent in my headshot to Barbara McNamara, here in NYC...She's pretty much always looking for people, so sending a headshot/resume wouldn't hurt! You don't make squat for money unless you are a SAG actor, but yeah...it was really fun! A warning to wanna-be extras though- My experience (according to many of my friends who have done this for a LOOOONG time) is pretty rare. Most of the time, you end up in a holding room most of the day... |

That's so cool!
A bunch of my friends were in Seabiscuit a few years ago. And a scene from The Rainman was filmed at a well known restaurant nearby! But I've never gotten to do anything like that, you're so lucky! Music and Lyrics was such an awesome movie! |
||||
| Brigantine |
I saw that movie last weekend, and remember that scene! That was YOU!!!!!!!!!??? SO cool. I'll have to pay extra special attention the next time I see it, but probably that won't be until DVD, unless a friend who hasn't seen it wants to. I saw it with my husband and we both liked it a lot. Laughed a lot. FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
LOL! No doubt you left the theatre singing that cheesy rendition of "Pop Goes My Heart"...that still cracks me up! |
||||
| Aimee |
Congrats Jazzy, that really brilliant! I saw the film last week and had no idea until now you were in it. [I must have missed any posts where you mentioned it, sorry]. I really like the film too, it made me laugh and cry in all the right places.
I'm so pleased for you. |

How weird, I've got the M&L soundtrack going right now, only to see this message.
Lucky cow! Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Is Grant as nice as he seems to be? Anyway, Congrats! |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
Actually, he's very stand-offish around extras, which I understand. He started to loosen up around lunch break the first day or so and jumped into the crowd and held my hand and a girl on the other side's hand as well as he was "singing" the end of his song...he had girls on every side of him... Only thing is that we found out later that someone had grabbed his butt during that shot and they took pics of the extras in that area and I'm sure someone was reprimanded! And from then on during the shoot, he kept his distance from the extras...(Except me, who he talked to for a bit on day two of the shoot) But I think he got the vibe from me that I wasn't creepy, which is why he approached me and talked to me for a bit. LOL! Age hasn't been kind to him, either...he's starting to look like a leather handbag...LOL! But otherwise, he's okay...he can be a bit of a beeotch as the shoot drags on. He started to ask if we really needed to shoot such and such a scene again or if that was enough... I started thinking, "Hey, beeotch! YOU'VE got a stand-in AND you don't have to wear heels!" That totally empowered me! LOL! |

This reminds me of when I was an extra on a new [at the time] tv drama/comedy here in the UK. Its called Jonathan Creek and while the crew were setting up the first shot [it took about 2 hours] I was bored and naughtily started playing with one of the props. There were lots of extras waiting about on set and I got chatting to a cute guy who was about my age and we both had a go at it. I didn't work though as it was switched off. He asked me all kinds fo things, how I got into acting, about my singing etc etc and was really lovely. I even wondered if I might be in there. It was only when we started filming the actual scene that I realised the cute guy was one of the cast, http://www.jonathancreek.net/jonathancreek.asp?css= and that I had been chatting with actor Alan Davies, Jonathan Creek himself. |

This thread reminds me of a funny story.
I was once an extra in a local bank ad. I was in a quick shot where four or five of us were siting at a table in a resaurant. Of course, my shot was the back of my head. At the time, I was going to school and selling TVs by night. I remember showing a customer a TV and seeing the back of my head on it. I wanted to say something, like ... hey, that's the back of my head. But sometimes it's better to laugh to yourself and move on. |
||||
| lostquiche |
Wow, that's pretty awesome! Do you know if there's a clip on youtube?
| QuaxoCoricopat |
I'm pretty sure I saw that in the film (seen it twice, such a dork).
*snicker* Too true, although sometimes I've caught myself doing the same even if I knew better. That must be why he doesn't like making films... So jealous of you right now jazzy... M&L restarted my whole crush on Grant (even if he does look a little leathery...), but at least my degree of seperation has become smaller. Two degrees WOO! (Really I'm not a creepy obsessed fan. Really) Hopefully this moment is the start of many more shining moments (and hours and years) in your career![/quote] |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
I wonder if one of the final editing people put this one in, as it's not exactly how it is in the movie...It's nice to know that either way, I would have had a close-up of some kind...in this one, I'm being a bit dorkier than the one that ended up on the movie! Also, the shoving sequence isn't how it ended up in the movie, either...LOL!
I'm all over that freakin' scene! http://youtube.com/watch?v=HPD7-7m-H38 And now I know why Hugh's so stand-offish...someone actually HANDCUFFED themselves to him on the red carpet at the premiere for this movie! |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
That's hilarious! I'm bad with that stuff, too! I'll be walking down the street and someone with me will be like, "OMG THAT WAS CHRIS NOTH!" I'm like, who??? |
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
At least you weren't balding or something! LOL! |
||||
| QuaxoCoricopat |
Yeah, but he was a trooper from what I heard. He just continued down the red carpet giving interviews and completely ignored the crazy woman chained to him until the fire department could come and break the chain. Though apparently he ended up wearing the cuff (sans madwoman) through the rest of the premiere until they could get a locksmith to break it.
|
||||
| jazzygirlsings |
^That's insane! I actually feel a bit sorry for him...I mean...fame=paparazzi, etc...but who knew it meant crazy women handcuffing themselves to him?! YIKES!
| Jordan |
I rather suspect that people were being mean to him to make him wear it through the premiere. The reason being that all police issue handcuffs in the UK have a standard key. I can open ANY UK issued police handcuffs with the one key. The novelty handcuffs you buy are shoddily made and the lock is very easy to pick. I'd be surprised that either the fire brigade or a police officer didn't have the right key and then if not, that someone couldn't undo it with a kirby grip, seriously. Handcuffs deliberately do *not* have unique keys like your door keys as a safety precaution. |
||||
| QuaxoCoricopat |
I don't know what it was, he may have been late to the showing and decided to just leave instead of mess with it. They did call the firefighters and not the police I noticed...
That, and half a pair of handcuffs does make good cocktail conversation... "That's an... interesting bracelet?" "Hmm, yes, this mad dutchwoman just leapt out of the crowd and cuffed me. Come back to my place and help me take it off?" |
||||

Just wanted to say I FINALLY saw the movie and absolutely LOVED it Ooooh, and I didn't miss your big scene, Jazzy - soooo lucky! |
||||
| Brigantine |
Bought it and watched it again last night... this time I made sure to find you!!! Looks like you just missed out on being in the crowd on the back cover of the DVD, too.
