MT party music

I'm throwing a MT-themed party, and out of kindness to my friends I'm playing "normal" music, but I wanted to include some MT music too.

Any suggestions of good MT dance songs that are clean (and won't bore my non-musical friends) ?
wicked_boy

Mamma Mia stuff, We Will Rock You stuff, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Footloose, those type of stuff.

Try getting Me First and the Gimme Gimmes album "Are a Drag". It's mostly upbeat, fun covers of popular showtunes.

^that's so great! Thanks Smile

Out Tonight from Rent always makes me want to dance. We dance to it before every show we do at school. Very Happy

^I think a lot of Rent songs would fit, but that's not exactly appropriate

I'm really not trying to be condescending at all.

How old are you and your friends? Is this a school-hosted party or something? Or would your parents not like the lyrics...?

I love them. Especially their covers of Cabaret and "I Sing the Body Electric".

It doesn't really have to do with age--I'm just inviting a lot of kids that are mormon (my theatre is full of them) so I wanted to be careful.

me too. I refuse

Hairspray has lots of good dancing tunes.
wicked_boy

I'd say Hairspray as well, especially 'cos of the movie release.

Try and use songs from musicals that have been big in the media, like Grease, everyone knows it. We Will Rock You, everyone knows Queen. You know?

Do you live in Utah, by chance?

I know how the mormon thing goes, believe me. If not for that, I would suggest some of the songs from Spring Awakening. My theatre school friends and I had the time of our lives singing Totally F***ed and The Bitch of Living at the top of our lungs at 11:00 at night.

Hairspray is good, as is some of Legally Blonde, although someone might get offended at how many times they take the lord's name in vain in Omigod You Guys (if any of your mormon friends act the same way some of mine do). Basically, my ideas are the same as the ones that have been posted...
jesuiscommejesuis

How is saying \"omigod you guys\" taking the Lord\'s name in vain?
Kiwi

You wouldn't think it was that big of a deal, would you? But I was listening to it once and my friend started singing it and said "omigosh" instead of "omigod" because she didn't want to say god. I thought it was completely unnecessary censorship, but she just couldn't handle saying the actual words.
jesuiscommejesuis

Yeah if she feels uncomfortable saying the word God, whatever, but I think a lot of people don\'t really understand that commandment.

Anyways, I don\'t want to drag this thread off-track.

You Can\'t Stop the Beat. One of my favorite dance-songs from musicals.

Oh, okay, makes sense. Ummm, You Can't Stop the Beat sounds good. People are giving really good suggestions.

I dont think that its about not wanting to say God, but saying O my God when you aren't actually adressing God would be in vain. Smile Think about it--what if people used your name as an equivalent to a curse?

But that is not what using a word in vain means. Using the Lords name in vain would be taking advantage of His name, like saying God will feel so and so towards you if you dont do something for me. Its taking advantage of His name and using it for personal gain.
