Mrs. Potts

Just got cast as Mrs. Potts in a highschool production this summer. Any ideas on characterizations for this character, OTHER than the whole old lady Angela Lansbury thing. I tried that and I'm terrible at it because my voice sounds too young for that yet. So anybody have any other characterizations that may work and be cool or funny? I just don't want to make a fool out of myself! Laughing

Much love to everyone on this site,

Umm....there's not much to say besides being a sweet old lady. You've gotta be warm and kind, obviously.

One tip to make you look funny (in a good way): when you enter for the first time, when you say "yoo-hoo" say it loud and high-pitched. It worked every night for us. They will laugh at your line, and you will get a costume laugh, if the costume is done right.

Break a leg!!!!

Oh, the line in our script is "Coming through" but I know what you mean Very Happy

Thanks for that. Anybody else have anything? I'm open to new or even crazy ideas all summer long! I need all the help I can get!

Think all mother like and nurturing - see how Mrs Potts is towards Belle and Chip? She's like the mother figure of the castle and as
musikal_geek posted - all kind and sweet. Have a gentle tone in your voice and think of being busy as Mrs Potts reminds me of a waitress - happy to serve anyone - think 'Be My Guest!'

Hope I have helped in some small way! Very Happy

Thanks for the help! The show opened on Friday and it is going FANTASTICALLY! We're sold out, and the producer of B & B on Broadway (who is friends with our director) came to see the show and was very complimentary about the show and the enchanted objects performances =)

I'm so proud of our cast, and so glad that it turned out well. Thanks to all!!!

ummmm, Mrs Potts is supposed to be right at 40. Chip is her son, not her grandson.

That's 7 yrs younger than Madonna.
