Mrs. Potts - An Interesting BackstoryA friend of mine just finished playing Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. She had a really amazing backstory that made her character seem very real. The story was obviously never discussed in the show, but the cast was in on it and it made her character much more emotional.
She wasn't played as a "granny," as usual. Instead she was a younger woman. She was really desperate for the spell to be broken because just before the spell was cast, she found out she was pregnant with a second child. She has no way of giving birth, being a teapot, so if the spell isn't broken soon, the baby will not be able to be born into the world.
It added a lot of depth. It seems unecessary, but she absolutely nailed that role.
Thoughts?

I love it when actors take on different or unusual backstories for their characters. That sounds really unique and I wish I could have seen it!

Interesting idea, but my feeling has always been that the spell lasted for more than a few months. It's kind of like the "how long were Adam and Eve in Eden?" question...you can debate it all day with the evidence available, but in the end nobody knows.

It's been a little bit longer than a few months.

LUMIERE: Ten years we've been rusting...
Nice backstory, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think what he is saying that Mrs. Potts was pregnant when the spell was cast and the spell sort of put a 'hold' on her pregnancy for lack of a better word, so if and when the spell is broken she will be able to resume her pregnancy and have the child.
that sounded weird putting it in that way but if that is right, then I think it is a great backstory. bravo!

^No, I read it as "If the spell isn't broken within the time of her pregnancy, then the child can't be born whatsoever...where it would GO I have no idea...
Either way, it doesn't matter because it's unofficial anyway. Very interesting though...I've always seen Mrs. Potts as a granny figure, though.
I believe Mrs. Potts has more children than just Chip, though...?

That is implied in the movie. There's a scene where Mrs. Potts is putting Chip to bed in his cupboard and there are a lot of other cups that look like him (they have no face though, I think that's because they're asleep).
