Movie IdeasI have some ideas for the movie. Just so people know, I love the revival and it's new orchestrations. Unfortunatley, the original orchestrations will probaly be brought back, but hopefully they'll be a 'bigger' version of the revival orchestrations. I also think, that although I like the Idea of Toby telling the story, when he's not in tthe asylum (first and last scene), it should stick to the original in being true to the time period.
Ballad of Sweeney Todd - Toby being taken to the asylum, as he looks around, he sees the characters come alive, they confront him until he turns and runs right into sweeney, where he sings the final verse.
No place like London - The first bit should be dialouge, when the beggar woman comes the music should start, it's important to get the 'Alms, Alms' and the 'Barber and his wife' theme in.
Worst pies/poor thing - leave untouched, freaky flashbacks during Poor thing.
My freinds - show flashbacks from Todd's glory days.
Ballad - have mournfull ghost-like figures in the bacxkround singing.
Johanna sequence - Make 'Ah miss' dialouge, but the rest can be done as a movie version of the play.
Pirelli - More dialouge and shorten the contest.
Judge's Johanna - Shorten, It may be a kick-ass song, but it's not really tunefull, it'll bore non-musical fans.
Wait - replace with dialouge, slowing the movie down and reviewing what's happened so lost people can catch up.
Kiss me sequence - cut out the judges part of this song, and replace with dialouge afterwords
Pretty Woman - maybe flashbacks to Todd's wife.
Epiphany - This will be REALLY hard, let Todd kick things, let his anger rage, and shorten :'(. I know, but I really feel it has to be shortened for film.
A litttle preist - If the director and cameraman get enough interesting angles of the pie shop, the scene will work without shortening, and be interesting enough.
God That's good - shorten. I love this song, but it's complicated enough to lose people.
Johanna - I think it just might be able to be pulled off without hortening, cut to the different subplots during the song, maybe even flash back to the asylum, where Toby's head is exploding with the characters invading his mind.
By the Sea - This CANNOT be shortened. IT is one of the most tuneful, and certaintly the best stand-alone song in the show, and so it just CAN'T be cut or shortened. I think it can be done well in the shop, but if neccisary, cut to the seaside.
Not While I'm around - Once again, I don't think it can be shortened, foccus on Mrs. Lovett's guilt. Make sure toby goes MAD when he sees the beadle's body.
Wigmaker/Letter/Asylum sequence - cut it to dialouge. The contents of the letter can be revealed in a discussion between Mrs. Lovett and sweeney.
City on fire - this has an interesting enough setting and tune that it'll work well on film -concentrate on the choas.
Final sequence - Once again, interesting enough to just shoot it. Maybe use dialouge instead of song in some parts.
The ballad - The asylum comes back, Toby one by one sees the dead characters until again sweeney appears to sing the final verse. The iron door slams; toby is locked in the asylum.
Any thoughts or ideas?

I have a great feeling that the ones who will come see Sweeny are the Theatre Junkies and/or Burton Junkies. I think mostly everybody else in the mainstream will stay away from Sweeny or if they do go, they will think it would be the most boring and most stupidest movie they have put their eyes on. I am not saying that this, how I feel... But in American culture, I cannot see the culturally deprived, American Idol lovin', Shake your tootsie roll drivle American.... love Sweeny.
So with that being said, although some of your ideas are cool. I think it would be an absolute travesty to Sweeny by cutting songs like "Wait" shortening "Pirelli's Miracle Elxir", "God thats Good" or cutting Sondheim's complexity in his music, to appease the mainstream. Although, they may happen.... it wouldnt suprise me.... I would be really dissapointed to loose songs, for the sake of more dialouge.

Yeah, I'm really a little afraid of what they're going to do to the film.... I mean, I like Burton and all, don't get me wrong... but his movies always feel a little... clean to the point of being obsessive maybe? Just a vibe, mind. "Sweeney Todd"'s pretty gritty, if you ask me.... At any rate -- I hope they don't mess too much with the music to appease, it... doesn't seem right. I wasn't ecstatic about their making a movie in the first place -- I think if audiences are going to reject it, they'll probably reject it for a lot of the same reasons as "The Producers". They'll say it's over-the-top, likely (that is, if they're pretty faithful to the original), which is fine (and expected) onstage but usually doesn't work in film....
