Mountview Personal Statement QueryI'm applying for the PG MT course at Mountview and have a quick query about the personal statement section on the application form. The space provided is small (but it says you can carry on on a separate sheet if required) and as well as the usual personal statement stuff of why you want to apply, it is also the only place to list relevant experience. What would you say would be the maximum you could write in this section (it's the only open-ended question on the application form, the rest being used for personal/contact details, educational information and references)? I'm also tempted to write in the space "please see typed attached sheet" because I feel it would be neater just to have my PS all in one place rather than a bit of it on the hand-written application form and then the rest printed on an attached sheet. Is this acceptable? Thanks |

This question is answered in the book. |

You mean on Pg30? Okies, fair enough you do say in there that a separate one can be attached, but I just wanted to double check (especially as it only says on the form "use separate additional sheet if required"). Also, in your book I know you say only write one page for the PS and only give 3/4sentences on your performance experience, but is that really still true when there is no separate section on the form to give previous experience? I'm also worried that as I haven't taken a performance-related undergrad I have to make sure I tick all the boxes as having relevant experience to even be considered in the application process? |

Hi, no they don't require a CV either. I'll try and narrow my PS down to one page then and get it sent off asap (just want to confirm which monologues I'm doing before it goes off). Don't suppose you could help with this query too: http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=65065 Simon offered his 2cents and said that only stuff written in Elisabethean time is really considered classical. However, I remember previously you said that Oscar Wilde could count as classical, so I was wondering if it's different for MT courses compared to straight acting? As much as I love Shakespeare, I feel it's not directly relevant to MT courses and as Mountview don't specifically mention they require one of the two audition pieces to be classical, I'd rather do something other than Shakespeare (unless you think that's unadvisable?) |
