MotN Alternative Lyrics

Anyone know the background of the alternative lyrics to MotN?

The Very Angry Woman

That's the music video which was done before the show opened. The lyrics were rewritten.

watching those two makes me sick

i like those lyrics better though (mostly..i actually took both versions one day and analyzed each difference and made a new one w/ parts from each, the vast majority from this one) i think it better suits the phantom's character

eg 'hearing is believing' 'the truth isnt what you want to see' these show more how the phantom's compelling voice and power of illusion makes naiive christine doubt reality (which is what is truly ugly) and choose him...rather than making such a weak character choice as to say 'well, she's hypnotized! she cant help it' Rolling Eyes
also 'let music set you free...only then can you belong to me' that is a wonderful paradox, which has lots more meaning

I like this version better. This was a single that ALW produced, os that he could test the waters for the show. Hart and Stilgoe slightly altered the lyrics of the song for this version.
I really like this single version, as I feel it's probably deeper than the version on the full OLC recording. Luckily the OLC highlights album includes it.

Oh!

I didn't realize there were different versions! This is the version I did fall in love with, though. It's the reasion I love this musical so.

Yes, it's probably more sensual too. I think it has a more natural ebb and flow as compared to the full 2-CD recording. I think it would probably demonstrate a little more of the "sheep's clothing" veneer that you see in the Phantom in the beginning.
