motivate MaryMagGot an audition this Sunday w/ a company I'd really like to work with. They own dinner theaters all over the nation so I could possibly spend the next year or so being in 18 productions of Anything Goes.
ANYWAY
I'm kinda burned out lately. I'm sick of preparing my ass off and having all that preparation not really pay off. And it's getting harder to audition for theaters whom you've already auditioned for several times, but have never cast you. You feel like they've already made up their mind about you.
I'm not exACTly in that position - I've only auditioned for this theater once before, but I'm still feeling bleh. And I'm thinking why put so much work and money (if I'm seeing a voice or acting coach to prep) into 16 bars and a 30 sec monologue?
Anyone have any sage advice or words of encouragement? I'm feeling tired and unexcited.

I'm climbing uphill, Daddy
Climbing uphill
I'm up every morning at six
And standing in line
With two hundred girls
Who are younger and thinner than me
Who have already been to the gym
I'm waiting five hours in line
And watching the girls
Just coming and going
In dresses that look just like this
Till my number is finally called
When I walk in the room
There's a table of men
Always men - usually gay
Who've been sitting like I have
And listening all day
To two hundred girls
Belting as high as they can!
I am a good person
I'm an attractive person
I am a talented person
Grant me Grace!
When you come home...
I should have told them I was sick last week
They're gonna think this is the way I sing
Why is the pianist playing so loud?
Should I sing louder?
I'll sing louder
Maybe I should stop and start over
I'm gonna stop and start over
Why is the director staring at his crotch?
Why is that man staring at my r©sum©?
Don't stare at my r©sum©
I made up half of my r©sum©
Look at me
Stop looking at that, look at me
No, not at my shoes
Don't look at my shoes
I hate these ---- shoes
Why did I pick these shoes?
Why did I pick this song?
Why did I pick this career?
Why does this pianist hate me?
If I don't get a callback
I can go to Crate and Barrel with mom and buy a couch
Not that I want to spend a day with mom
But Jamie needs space to write
Since I'm obviously such a horrible, annoying distraction to him
What's he gonna be like when we have kids?
And once again...
Why am I working so hard?
These are the people who cast Linda Blair in a musical
Jesus Christ, I suck, I suck, I suck, I suck
When fin'lly you come home to...
Okay, thank you
Thank you so much
I will not be the girl stuck at home in the 'burbs
With the baby, the dog, and the garden of herbs
I will not be the girl in the sensible shoes
Pushing burgers and beer nuts and missing the clues
I will not be the girl who gets asked how it feels
To be trotting along at the genius's heels
I will not be the girl who requires a man to get by
And I...
When you come home to me
I'll wear a sweeter smile...

Remember how you said you didn't know what you'd do after your tap class ended? I think Anything Goes would be some kickass tap to tide you over!
I spent an hour tonight tapping in jazz pants and a bathing suit top to DVD from the 80s standing on a piece of Home Depot wood in my bedroom. And if it's not to do a tap show in a couple of years, then I don't know why. So get out your piece of plywood, do some time steps, and pick your favorite 16 bars of Cole Porter.
And depending where the shows are, some of us can come see you and cheer for you and say how awesome you are and how glad we are you auditioned.
So there!!

You could work at the same family of theatres I did! Haha. Then we'd have an even more special bond, MM.
Seriously though.
Reasons why MaryMag is awesome and should be in this show:
1.) She's dedicated. She gives all of herself to perfecting her craft, and she's someone whom the rest of us should be taking note of. Always at a dance lesson or voice lesson...always auditioning for something...taking less than amazing jobs in order to network with better theatres...she is as driven as they come.
2.) She's beautiful. And how CUTE would she look tapping her heart out, grinning, in a little sailor costume? *dies thinking of the cuteness*
3.) She deserves this. She is always helpful to everyone and she deserves to get this. She just does.
Feel free to add on.

I'm picturing you tapping with Bonnie Franklin on a table top from Home Depot right now... now THAT'S inspiring! Tapping on a table top to a DVD made in the early 80's to improve your craft! THAT'S dedication!

You guys are too awesome. Thank you for the encouragement. It's so nice to have theater friends who know exactly what to say to you to kick you into motion.
THANK YOU!

another thing to consider is..if your body or mind is saying..I'm beat..it might be time to take a rest and regenerate your energy and passion.

I have been kinda working on overdrive a lot lately. Like trying to run a car that has no gas left in it. But this is the last of the general season auditions for the professional theaters in my area, so I'll go to it of course, but I'm probably not gonna put as much work into it as I usually do! lol!

Perhaps narrow down a bit what you would like to attend for auditions. Just go to that stuff that you think you are really right for, etc...That could help you chill out a bit!

I have to say, you should be happy for what you've got! After all, there are some people (like me) who are not able to particpate in theatre at all even though they are absolutely dying to. That's waaaay worse than being at least able to audition and perform. So you've got it pretty good at that.
However, I do think a rest would be a great idea!
