Most Underrated MusicalsYour thoughts??
Personally, I think that SUGAR (i.e Some Like it Hot) is one of the best musicals ever and it is hardly ever produced.

Sugar! That was my very first show. I agree, I have never heard of any productions of it since mine, and it's freaking hysterical. I wouldn't say one of the best, but it's witty and light-hearted and amusing.

My alma mater is looking at it for their big musical...but I don't think they'll end up doing it because they need a big name to sell 2 weeks of shows...we did Hello, Dolly last fall and it made lots of money but we also spent a TON on that show. Anyway. It looks like a fun show, though!
I think one of the least-produced shows that I love is The Boyfriend.

One of my all time favorite musicals. easily one of the top 3 funniest musicals of all time.
but I dont consider it under rated..its performed often and its london and broadway runs were long and covered with many awards.

Staright Express. Nobody here semms to have ever heard of it. Probably becasue there is no film and it hasn't toured since 1987.

Plenty of people here have heard of it-- there are even a few avid fans from what I've seen.

Rex and Into the Woods (Into the Woods is almost unknown in England).

But Into the woods seems to be produced by at least one drama school third year/final term group each year...
Will Rodger Follies - that's pretty much unheard of in the UK
I love you, you're perfect, now change

Most theatre people I know in England haven't even heard of it. It's probably because the West End production sucked.

the west end ITW wasnt brilliant but it had Julia McKenzie.

I saw the most recent production in London last summer at the Royal Opera House, which I thought was pretty good. Beverly Klein as The Witch was excellent, I really lover her work. She was outstanding in Fiddler as well.

Suzanne Toase as Little Red Riding Hood I also thought was very good.

I agree about "Rex" such a wonderful score..such great lyrics and an amazing original cast.
too bad the book problems werent smoothed over.

"I Love You Because..." is underrated in my opinion, as I haven't heard of any recent productions of it and can't find a lot of people who have heard of it.

I agree about She Loves Me. My favorite Harnick/Bock show!
