MonologuesWe're doing a kind of mock audition in my theatre studies class, where we have to do a relatively modern monologue to be assesed on.Does anyone have any good suggestions? I'm probably more comfortable with comic ones or things which require odd voices but if you know a good serious or dramatic one then a challenge would be nice too Thanks |

I recently saw someone do a fantastic version of "Live or Leave?" from the Drowsy Chaperone, which was something I hadn't seen before. It's both funny and quite touching, if a bit short.
I've also seen an exerpt from the History Boys performed as a monologue, which was really excellent - it's the scene where Posner's talking to Irwin about his sexuality. If you don't know it, it's quite sad throughout, but the ending is: "Do you look at your life sir? I'm a Jew... I'm small... I'm.. h-homosexual... And I live in Sheffield. I'm fu**ed." |

There's this cool book called "Spoon River Anthology" and, while not really very modern, has tons of poems from the point of view of dead people in a cemetery, talking about their lives. They are very easily made into monologues. There are some great ones; I'm performing "Dora Williams" for an English project.
Here's a link to all of the poems: http://spoonriveranthology.net/spoon/river/originalOrder/ |
